SBWAN CH19
It’s Ghost!
Jing Xi drew his sidearm, his eyes turning cold.
These people wearing smiley face masks were members of the Ghost Legion.
The masks were their usual disguise.
The Ghost Legion’s movements were erratic and their lethality was high. Whenever they struck, their opponents were sure to be annihilated.
It was neither a star pirate crew nor a mercenary group. If one had to say, it was more like an assassin organization.
Their high-frequency crimes and cruel methods made them a key target for military investigation, but so far, not much useful intelligence had been gathered.
After seeing who had arrived, the two instructors were so scared they nearly forgot to breathe.
In the star pirate circle, Ghost was as notorious as Extreme Shadow.
If you encountered Extreme Shadow, with luck, you would just be humiliated. If you encountered Ghost, you could only wait for death.
These masked people were like emotionless killing machines, killing on sight. Begging them for mercy would only lead to a quicker death.
The round-faced instructor was afraid that making a sound would attract Ghost, so he could only ask Jing Xi with his eyes.
—Sir, let Extreme Shadow and Ghost play by themselves?
When gods fight, if they got involved, they would only end up as cannon fodder.
Jing Xi made a gesture to stay put, then turned to look at Chi Yao, his eyes filled with doubt.
Was he hiding and waiting for Ghost?
After this thought came up, Jing Xi felt it wasn’t quite right.
How did Chi Yao know Ghost would come?
On the star pirate side, the atmosphere immediately dropped to freezing point upon seeing the Ghost Legion.
Li Yuan set up his heavy sniper rifle, and together with Chen Sheng, stared at the situation over there, gritting his teeth in a low voice, “It’s these guys who don’t dare to show their faces again. What bad luck!”
Chen Sheng’s scope quickly scanned the area, “About two hundred people, four gold masks, already moving down towards the mine entrance. Boss, what do we do?”
Just as he finished speaking, a corner of the rock they were hiding behind was shattered by a bullet from that direction.
“Fuck!” Chen Sheng raised his hand to block the debris and cursed under his breath, “They’ve found us?”
Chi Yao looked up, his gaze sweeping over the AI surveillance above.
“It’s not surprising they found us.”
In the span of a few words, the bullets fired in their direction became more dense.
Li Yuan changed positions several times, hiding behind a larger rock, his expression fierce. “Boss, what’s the word?”
Chi Yao turned his head to look at Jing Xi, who was hiding not far away. The two happened to make eye contact across the distance.
He smiled, not deliberately lowering his voice, “Let’s move to the 6 o’clock direction first. After Ghost deals with the mercenary group, we’ll intercept.”
After saying that, all of Extreme Shadow moved among the rocks, and really did head in the 6 o’clock direction.
The round-faced instructor shivered and spat in disgust, “They don’t have any regard for human life at all!”
The mercenary group was surrounded by Ghost and Extreme Shadow. There was no way out!
Jing Xi’s gaze quickly swept over the positions of the mercenary group, Ghost, and Extreme Shadow, and he frowned.
Something’s not right.
At the military headquarters monitoring room, the high-level officials were arguing endlessly about whether to dispatch troops.
Chen Bingfeng secretly glanced at Pei Zhenyue and said sarcastically, “Jing Xi has made a serious error in assessing the strength of the new recruits. If we let him continue like this, I’m afraid this batch of new recruits will all perish there.”
Several other lieutenant generals chimed in—
“This mistake is indeed too outrageous this time. Even if we dispatch troops immediately, it will take a day to get there. Even mobilizing troops from a nearby location would take half a day.”
“It’s a good thing for young people to be ambitious, but they can’t disregard everything for the sake of military merit. It’s too eager for quick success.”
“The Flying Dragon Legion has been chasing Extreme Shadow for so many years. I can understand his eagerness, but things have to be solved slowly.”
A few individuals also spoke up for Jing Xi, but were quickly suppressed by the others.
Pei Zhenyue listened to their discussion, watching the surveillance footage without showing any emotion.
Just then, the surveillance screen suddenly went black!
Chen Bingfeng shouted at the information officer, “What’s going on?! Restore the picture quickly!”
The information officer wiped his sweat and said hurriedly, “Yes, sir!”
In less than a minute, the information officer stood up and reported, “The surveillance equipment is damaged, and the backup system cannot be activated. It probably can’t be restored in a short time.”
At such a critical moment, the surveillance footage was suddenly gone.
The atmosphere in the monitoring room took a sharp turn for the worse.
“Old Pei, if we don’t send troops now, the consequences will be something neither you nor I can bear,” Zhao Hongyi’s tone was unhurried, enjoying the show.
After a short silence, Pei Zhenyue suddenly spoke.
“You’re right.”
This surprised Zhao Hongyi a little.
The two had been secretly competing for many years, on par in all aspects. Today, the other party actually conceded to him?
Zhao Hongyi was instantly in a good mood.
Pei Zhenyue said in a deep voice, “Dispatch 500 people from the Aquarius X510 garrison base to X30 to assist Jing Xi in capturing the Ghost Legion.”
The smile on Zhao Hongyi’s mouth suddenly froze.
He questioned, “Assist in capturing?”
Pei Zhenyue explained calmly, “A high-risk criminal group has appeared at the training ground. It is only right for the headquarters to send troops to support.”
Chen Bingfeng, hearing that his tone was off, corrected him, “It’s to escort the new recruit group back, right?”
As if hearing something very funny, Pei Zhenyue let out a light laugh, “The new recruit training has just begun. What’s the point of sending them back?”
Chen Bingfeng: “But now Extreme Shadow and Ghost—”
“So what?” Pei Zhenyue interrupted him. “Jing Xi is a highly experienced commander. He is more than capable of leading these few new recruits. Instead of worrying here, it’s better to trust that he will handle this matter well.”
Speaking of which, Pei Zhenyue patted his shoulder, “You should have some confidence in your subordinates.”
Feeling the weight on his shoulder, Chen Bingfeng’s face darkened, and he swallowed the words that were on the tip of his tongue.
Walking out of the monitoring room, Pei Zhenyue sighed lightly.
You have to live up to expectations, you brat.
On X30, Extreme Shadow, halfway through their move, suddenly turned back.
Bang!
The sound of metal being pierced came from above.
Jing Xi looked up.
The AI surveillance floating in the sky was sparking, thick smoke billowing.
“What are they doing?!” The round-faced instructor was both scared and angry.
If the surveillance was gone, the headquarters would lose control of their situation here and couldn’t provide precise and rapid support.
Jing Xi made a silencing gesture and looked in the 6 o’clock direction.
That area was being densely strafed by the Ghost Legion, kicking up a cloud of dust.
As expected.
Jing Xi didn’t know why he had this feeling, but when Chi Yao looked at him and said that, he knew the other party wasn’t really going there.
Ghost was so far away, how could they possibly hear where Chi Yao was going to hide?
The answer was obvious.
But he didn’t dare to think about it in detail.
Below the mine entrance, the mercenary group was thrown into chaos by the appearance of the Ghost Legion.
“Alert! Alert!”
A patrol team leader sounded the alarm and roared.
His dozen or so men started firing wildly at the distant Ghost Legion.
“Ah—!”
Suddenly, one person in the team was shot and fell to the ground.
The others immediately panicked, retreating towards the spaceship while firing. They didn’t get far before they were all shot dead by Ghost.
The patrol team leader dived into a pile of rocks, dodging a wave of bullets. Seeing the blood all over the ground, his face turned pale.
It’s over.
No one could get back alive from the hands of the Ghost Legion!
“Old Lin, what are you standing there for? Come here, quick!”
The patrol team leader, called Old Lin, looked up and saw a comrade-in-arms waving at him from the side door of the spaceship.
He took a few deep breaths, preparing to cross through the rocks.
“Ugh—!”
Before he could get up, his comrade who had called him was suddenly shot through the neck. Crimson blood splattered the spaceship’s hull, and the person fell straight into the pile of rocks.
“Old Qi!”
Old Lin cried out in a lost voice, the courage he had just mustered completely gone, and he hid back again.
Gunshots and screams continued to sound around him. His hands were shaking violently.
Just as he was about to turn around and launch a counterattack, a pair of black military boots appeared before him.
Old Lin slowly looked up and saw a smiley face mask with a gold base and red patterns.
“I-I surrender—” Old Lin raised his hands and knelt, tears already forced from his eyes.
The gold mask ignored his plea for mercy and raised his gun, aiming at his head.
Bang!
A gunshot rang out.
The gold mask hurriedly retreated. The mask was grazed by a bullet, leaving a black scratch.
Before he could steady himself, another shot pierced his calf.
“Ugh!”
The gold mask dragged his leg and retreated rapidly, hiding behind the mining equipment, and fired several shots in the direction the bullets came from.
Old Lin was so scared he had lost half his soul. He scrambled back behind the rocks and peeked out through a crack.
Just after those two gunshots, the battle situation suddenly reversed.
The black masks fell one by one, all shot in the head with a single bullet.
“Who-who’s here?” Old Lin was drenched in sweat, his vision blurry.
The members of the Ghost Legion all moved very fast. To be able to shoot so accurately at this speed, and not miss a single shot, this marksmanship was too amazing!
“We’re here, don’t be afraid.”
A rough voice suddenly sounded from behind. Old Lin was so scared he immediately turned his head and saw a burly Alpha squatting behind him.
Li Yuan beckoned to him, “Brother, lend me a few rounds of universal bullets.”
Old Lin blankly handed over a magazine, so nervous he swallowed hard. “W-was it you who saved me just now?”
Li Yuan threw away the empty magazine and reloaded deftly, “Otherwise? You think Ghost suddenly had a change of heart?”
Old Lin’s face lit up with joy, “Thank you! Which group are you from?”
Although there was a risk of having their mine raided, with a great enemy at hand, they couldn’t be bothered with that now.
Li Yuan grinned at him, “Extreme Shadow.”
“Oh, so it’s Extreme Shadow—” Old Lin, halfway through his sigh of relief, suddenly reacted, “Extreme Shadow?!”
Li Yuan: “Mhm.”
Old Lin couldn’t catch his breath, his eyes rolled back, and he fainted.
Li Yuan kicked him, “Hey, if you’re not using your bullets, I’ll take them.”
After a symbolic greeting, he smilingly stripped the other party of all his military equipment.
“Stop playing around, speed it up,” Chi Yao jumped down from the rocks and walked over slowly. “Deal with it before the military arrives.”
Li Yuan slung a whole row of magazines over his body, “You can rest assured when I do things, old man!”
Hiding outside the battle circle, the new recruits watched, not wanting to blink.
Those rough guys from Extreme Shadow are so damn strong!
How did the Ghost Legion become like wild pheasants in their hands, one shot, one kill, so easy?!
The song “Crack Shot” really wasn’t sung for nothing.
Thinking of the past few days when they had been challenging Extreme Shadow every day, a wave of fear washed over them.
It’s a miracle they’re still alive.
Taking advantage of Extreme Shadow holding off Ghost, Jing Xi suddenly moved.
“Everyone, follow me.”
He led the new recruit group in the opposite direction of Extreme Shadow, towards the spaceship.
The dark-skinned instructor couldn’t help but ask, “Are we going to deal with Extreme Shadow or Ghost?”
Moving to a position, Jing Xi made a stop gesture.
This was diagonally behind the spaceship, easy to defend.
Jing Xi: “Protect the mercenary group. Don’t worry about the rest.”
The round-faced and dark-skinned instructors exchanged a look and had the new recruits get ready.
Below the mine entrance, Extreme Shadow and Ghost were locked in a chaotic battle.
The mercenary group was trying to survive in the cracks, hiding in various places and shivering. The spaceship was clearly only a few hundred meters away, but they didn’t dare to go back.
Chi Yao observed for a moment, and was about to head towards the equipment control room.
“Don’t move.”
A cold and greasy voice, like a poisonous snake, sounded from behind. He paused his steps.
The gold mask raised his gun and aimed it at Chi Yao’s head, walking over step by step.
“Have your people stop immediately!”
Chi Yao took out his gloves from his pocket and put them on, his movements unhurried.
“If you stop, we will naturally stop.”
The gold mask watched his movements warily, his voice growing more impatient, “Do you believe I’ll blow your brains out with one shot!”
Chi Yao turned his head and smiled with impunity, “Then why don’t you try?”
The gold mask was annoyed by his attitude. Just as his finger was about to pull the trigger, his wrist was suddenly hit by a bullet, and the gun fell to the ground.
“Ugh—!”
Before he could retreat, Chi Yao grabbed his lapels and pulled him over, his knee striking heavily into his chest.
The gold mask cried out in pain, but reacted quickly, drawing the military knife from his thigh holster and swiping at Chi Yao.
Chi Yao leaned back slightly, seized his wrist and twisted it, then grabbed the back of his neck and slammed him against a rock.
“Ah—!”
The gold mask struggled with all his might but couldn’t move.
“Anyone who dares to point a gun at me is already dead.” Chi Yao’s voice was loose. He turned his head to look diagonally behind him, the corners of his lips curling up. “Except for him.”
Through the scope, Jing Xi saw Chi Yao wink at him precisely.
Jing Xi’s face was cold, and he let out a light huff.
“Show-off.”

Jing Xi walks by with a wooden face: His expression is so flirtatious. He must not be a proper Alpha from a good family.
