“Hey! Are you sure you can do this?”
On the phone, Jamin lowered his voice, “I took a big risk getting you this pass. It’ll be bad if you’re discovered.”
Fang Chen, hiding in a corner, felt like patting his chest in assurance. “Don’t you worry.”
This was the largest and most famous boxing gym in New York City. The owner was Seth Bolton, the winner of the North American League’s golden belt. Until last week, he knew nothing about these things. Unfortunately, just because he had refused his boss’s dinner invitation, he was transferred to the sports department as a reporter.
Fang Chen was originally in the entertainment department, gathering gossip news daily with high commissions. Now transferred to the sports department, many people were waiting to see him make a fool of himself. But Fang Chen wouldn’t let people look down on him. He was going to get the most explosive story in one go and make everyone look at him with new respect.
Seth Bolton was the brightest star in the boxing world, but because he was known to be cold and violent, with a powerful family background, almost no news agency dared to report on him. Fang Chen was going to be the one who dared to pluck the tiger’s whiskers.
The boxing gym didn’t allow Omegas to enter, so Fang Chen had his friend Jamin get him a Beta’s pass. He snuck in, his target being Seth. Although it was sports news, Fang Chen still retained his old habits from his time as an entertainment reporter, wanting to dig up some scandalous tidbits.
Soon, Fang Chen figured out where Seth’s office was. He squatted behind a large floor vase. Luckily, his slender figure was completely hidden. With the mini-camera set up, Fang Chen was prepared to wait for a while. This spot was a blind spot; as long as no one turned around, it was basically impossible for anyone to see him.
Hahaha Fang Chen! You’re a genius!
The little genius Fang Chen was smug, already imagining the scene of becoming the top reporter at his agency, slapping his boss’s face, and everyone hailing him as a genius reporter!
Meanwhile, in the office, the man sat lazily in his chair, one hand propping up his chin, his dark gaze fixed on the screen. A round bottom was sticking out from behind the vase. Fang Chen was so pleased with himself that he didn’t notice the camera with a flashing red light above his head at all.
Seth watched for a few seconds, then quickly pulled up that day’s security footage. He clearly saw how the boy had snuck in and how he had furtively hidden behind the vase. Finally, the computer screen froze, showing the boy’s palm-sized face. He had unintentionally looked up and was captured clearly by the camera.
His black eyes were beautiful, but Seth could tell at a glance that he was up to no good. After all, he was like this as a child.
Seth’s lips curled, and his body leaned back unconsciously. I haven’t even gone to catch you yet, and you’ve already walked right into my trap.
At first, Fang Chen was squatting. Later, he sat down. In the end, if there had been enough space, he would have almost lain down. But, was there really nothing going on at this gym? Did Seth never leave his office? Not only did he not come out, but there was no one on the entire floor all day.
Fang Chen was about to die of frustration. Luckily, he had stuffed a piece of bread in his pocket before he left. Leaning against the wall, he ate the bread. Cradling his camera, his eyelids started to feel heavy. Well… since there’s no one around, it won’t hurt if I sleep for a little while.
Soon, the ambitious little reporter was sound asleep. He didn’t know how long had passed when he was vaguely awakened by the sound of footsteps. Fang Chen groggily opened his eyes. The sky had turned dark, the entire floor was pitch black, and he could vaguely see a figure walking toward him, stopping right in front of him.
What kind of horror story is this!
He woke up with a start, leaned back, and fell on the floor with a thud. He looked up dizzily at the man. Seth stood before him, looking down at the boy. Except for when he was fighting, he usually wore a well-tailored black suit, which made him look very cold when he looked down.
Fang Chen was clearly frightened by him, his lips trembling. “I, I, I…”
Seth’s tone was light as he deliberately asked, “A thief?”
Fang Chen shook his head in panic. “No, no.”
Seth glanced at the camera in his arms. “A reporter? How did you get in?”
Fang Chen pressed his lips together and said nothing. The man crouched down slightly, his gaze falling on the work ID on his chest. His thin lips parted. “Hans, Beta, 32 years old.” Then he looked up slightly, meeting Fang Chen’s nervous gaze, and smiled. “You look quite young for your age.”
“…”
Fang Chen’s lips moved, not knowing what to say. Finally, he leaned on the nearby wall to stand up. His legs were a bit numb from sleeping for so long, and he gently shook them. He lowered his head slightly, his voice as small as a mosquito’s hum. “I… % @&$…”
Seth frowned. “What?”
Now’s the time!
He dashed out, ran to the elevator, and slammed the button repeatedly. But the elevator didn’t respond. Fang Chen turned around. In the dim corridor, the man stood at the far end, seemingly with no intention of catching him.
Fang Chen was sweating with anxiety. He turned to look at the stairwell, gritted his teeth, and pulled on the door. But after pulling a few times, it wouldn’t budge.
Only then did Seth start walking over slowly. “The elevators are off, the stairwell is sealed. You’ll have to find another way.”
Another way? Fang Chen’s vision went black. What! Am I supposed to jump out of the building?!
Fang Chen retreated step by step as the man approached step by step. Finally, he was cornered against the wall. The man placed a hand on the wall, trapping Fang Chen in a small space. Seth lowered his head and said calmly, “Your inhibitor patch has worn off.”
Fang Chen’s eyes widened abruptly. Like a freshly peeled citrus fruit, a sweet and sour scent burst forth, a fragrance that could make one’s mouth water. A faint blush appeared on the tips of the boy’s ears, and he quickly raised a hand to cover his neck.
The man looked down at him again, then took a step back on his own accord, moving aside. “There’s an emergency inhibitor patch in the first-aid kit in the office. Go change it.”
…So. Was Seth always this reasonable?
In the night, a black car sped by. Fang Chen sat in the passenger seat, staring blankly out the window. He had thought he would be beaten up and thrown out. At the very least, Seth might call the police and charge him with illegal entry, ruining his career in journalism. But to his surprise, the man did none of that. He just had him change his inhibitor patch, then had someone turn on the elevator, and even personally drove him home.
Fang Chen mumbled to himself. Is there some kind of conspiracy here?
Soon, the car stopped in front of a residential building, which was already a bit far from the city center. Fang Chen looked up and quickly said, “I’m here. Thank you. I’ll be going now.”
Seth frowned almost imperceptibly. “You live here?”
Fang Chen smiled nonchalantly. “Yeah, I’m just a little reporter.”
The man said nothing more and gave a slight nod. Fang Chen didn’t want to stay a second longer. He quickly opened the car door and slipped away.
Staring at his back, Seth’s eyes darkened. A few minutes later, he made a phone call. “Settle the marriage alliance as soon as possible. The Fang family just wants money, right? Tell them any amount is fine. I want to marry Fang Chen as soon as possible.”
The oblivious Fang Chen hummed a little tune as he went upstairs. He was a natural optimist. Although he hadn’t gotten any major scoops this time, getting caught and still getting out safely was a stroke of luck in itself.
He opened the door to his home, took off his shoes and coat, and collapsed onto the sofa. Ah! So tired. His phone wouldn’t stop vibrating.
Fang Chen picked it up, frowned, and was about to hang up irritably, but his finger slipped and he accidentally answered. On the other end, his father’s angry voice came through. “Come home on Saturday!”
Fang Chen closed his eyes and said listlessly, “If I remember correctly, you kicked me out of the house two months ago. Why should I go back?”
“You brat! This family raised you. Do you think you can just leave whenever you want?”
Fang Chen turned over and sat up, his face darkening. “How much money do you want me to pay back? Just name a price.”
“Nobody wants your money! Come home for dinner on Saturday!” His father paused, then added, “Your grandmother misses you too.”
This sentence undoubtedly hit Fang Chen’s weak spot. At home, only his grandmother was good to him. He pressed his lips together, and in the end, said nothing and hung up the phone.
Didn’t they all say he wasn’t a son of the Fang family? Just a fake young master who had been kicked out. Why do they want him back? It couldn’t be for a blind date, could it?!
