PRYM CH204: Teleportation
For decades, the director of Guangchen Welfare Institute had remained unchanged.
It was just that after so many years, the welfare institute director had transformed from a thin middle-aged man back then into an old man who needed a cane to walk.
However, Lin Chen felt that the director’s cane was merely a decoration for about 95% of the time.
Just like now, as soon as he saw Lin Chen, the director tossed aside his cane and laughed heartily as he came forward to hug him.
Director: “Xiao Chen! Xiao Chen! Oh my, it really is you. When I received your message two days ago, I almost got so excited I wanted to go to the city to find you! …What happened to you this past half year? Why did you suddenly lose contact, and even the police couldn’t find you! Do you know how worried we all were about you!”
The director smiled with tears in his eyes, patted Lin Chen’s arm heavily, and forcibly pulled him to turn around and bend over, wanting to see if he was missing any arms or legs.
Lin Chen called out respectfully: “Long time no see, Director. I’m sorry for making you worry so much.”
He obediently let the director manipulate him, coaxing and promising for a good while before finally calming the director’s worries.
Director: “Alright, alright, I know you’ve grown up, grown up… Let’s not talk about these things. Come on, I’ll take you in to see the children. You don’t know, during the time you were missing, they…”
Lin Chen bent down to pick up the cane and followed the director inside.
They chatted about recent situations and the growth of the children in the welfare institute, quickly entering the premises.
Hearing that Lin Chen had arrived, the children swarmed around him.
Enthusiastically calling out “Brother Lin” here, “Brother Chen” there, “Big Brother Lin Chen” in front, “Uncle Lin Chen” behind. With one voice after another, one hug after another, they instantly hugged Lin Chen’s legs so tightly he couldn’t walk.
A short, thin little girl was squeezed in the crowd of children, looking panicked as if she could be knocked down at any moment. Lin Chen immediately returned the cane to the director, bent down, and picked up the little girl from the crowd of children. After comforting her gently with a few words, the little girl became so shy she hugged his neck and wouldn’t let go.
After playing with the children for a while, Lin Chen finally managed to clear a path, put down the little girl, and followed the director into the office to discuss serious business.
Lin Chen first briefly explained the client’s situation to the director.
After understanding the situation in detail, the director sighed: “The people you recommend, Xiao Chen, are always reliable. How about this, let them set a time, and I’ll meet with them then to teach them how to go through the application process.”
Lin Chen thanked the director and pushed the WeChat contact. The director took a look and laughed: “Oh my, surnamed Lin.”
The director said nostalgically: “I still remember that was your surname when you were little, but you just didn’t like it. You cried whenever we called you that, making such a fuss that we had no choice but to change it to your current surname.”
Lin Chen: “?”
Lin Chen was shocked: “There was such a thing? Why didn’t I know?”
Old Director: “How old were you then? It’s normal to forget! But I can’t remember if your given name was changed then either. It seems it was changed, but the pronunciation didn’t change; we called you whatever we called you… Sigh, look at my memory. Indeed, memory gets worse as people get old. I’ll check the records later; maybe I can still find the records from back then…”
Lin Chen thanked the director with a smile: “Then thank you, Director. No rush, I’ll go play with them more later. By the way, there’s one more thing this time. I’ve saved up a sum of money over the years and plan to donate it to improve the children’s educational conditions. Director, see how the process goes, what needs to be signed and filled out, let’s get it all done today.”
The old director’s attention was instantly drawn to the donation.
He was overjoyed, filled with emotion and gratitude, but also worried: “But you are young now, exactly when you need money. You haven’t married or had children yet; there will be many places to use money in the future! I know you are kind-hearted and just want to give back to the welfare institute, but don’t let it affect your family and life!”
Lin Chen smiled: “My salary isn’t low, Director. Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing.”
After discussing formal matters, Lin Chen mooched a lunch at the welfare institute, played with the children for a while in the afternoon, told stories, chatted, and looked at the records the old director dug out. It wasn’t until evening that he finally left the welfare institute.
In the evening, Lin Chen had dinner and chatted all night with a friend who flew back from abroad specifically to see him.
Time quickly came to the third day.
On this day, Lin Chen woke up early to find CEO Sun and told him about his decision to leave the company.
Hearing this, CEO Sun almost broke down: “No, Ah Chen, you… you just came back! If you want to rest, want to travel, just tell me, I’ll approve however long a vacation you want! Xingchen is the company we built up together. Xingchen, Xingchen (Star/Chen), your name is even in it! If you leave, what will I do? What will Xingchen do? …Xingchen is where it is today entirely because of you!”
Lin Chen corrected him: “Xingchen’s development today is the result of everyone’s efforts in the company. I admit I have made significant contributions to the company, but actually, without me, you definitely could have found other ways to bring Xingchen to its current scale—and the reason you haven’t done so is also because I am here.”
Lin Chen paused and said softly: “You are a bit dependent on me, CEO Sun, Brother Sun.”
CEO Sun was stunned for a moment, his voice hoarse: “I…”
Lin Chen changed his tone and smiled relaxed: “Of course, if needed, I can continue to keep my name in the company. In the future, if there’s really something that absolutely requires me, call me, and I’ll come. It’s just that for the next few years, I have to go deal with some of my own affairs first. Maybe… I’ll lose contact for a while again.”
“So, just treat it as if I went on a trip around the world. After working hard for so many years, it’s time to live a fresh life.”
Seeing that he couldn’t persuade Lin Chen, CEO Sun finally lowered his head dejectedly: “Since you’ve decided, then go ahead. You’re right, I have relied on you a bit too much over the years… Sigh, but who wouldn’t rely on the King of Sales! …Forget it, you go, but you must keep your name here. If nothing else, as long as your name hangs there, our clients’ hearts won’t run away.”
He exhaled a long breath, hugged Lin Chen solemnly, and said seriously: “Ah Chen, do whatever you want to do. I wish you a safe journey. If you encounter any difficulties, you can come back to find your Brother Sun anytime. I, and Xingchen, will always be your backing!”
Lin Chen responded cheerfully: “Okay!”
Lin Chen chatted a few more sentences with CEO Sun, finally said goodbye, stuffed a couple of bites of sandwich, went back to the company, and checked the performance of the new manager he personally promoted this week.
Thinking it was good, Lin Chen held a meeting. First, he handed over the work handover and adjustment issues; second, he informed everyone that he was about to be transferred to be responsible for a confidential project of the company, and during this period, the corresponding affairs of the department would be fully responsible by the acting director.
Finally, Lin Chen handled everything, completed the handover of work WeChat, and set up the signature on his private WeChat. He returned home, turned off the water, electricity, doors, and windows, and waited quietly for the arrival of 4 PM.
The system comforted the host: “Don’t worry, Host. After the task is completed, the time flow on both sides will return to normal! They won’t wait too long over there.”
Lin Chen shook his head: “Disappearing without reason for a day is enough to make people panic, let alone a full three weeks. By the way, the brain rent saved over these two days is not allowed to be used privately. I have uses for it. If you don’t have energy when I need it…”
Lin Chen sneered.
The system shook like a sieve and responded forcefully and loudly to the host: “Yes, sir! Host!”
As soon as 4 PM arrived and the system salary was issued, Lin Chen stepped into the teleportation gate on time.
…
Old Master Cheng had spent the worst three weeks in the past two years.
Today was no different.
When he finished washing up and returned to the bedroom, his mood instantly hit rock bottom.
Old Master Cheng asked the old butler expressionlessly: “Is the window sealed properly? Cheng Huanzhen won’t sneak into the bedroom through the window tomorrow morning and sit by my bed staring at me, right?”
The old butler lowered his head: “Please rest assured, Mr. Cheng. The window sealing condition has been checked three times.”
Old Master Cheng: “Is the main door locked properly? Cheng Huanzhen won’t lie on my window staring at me early tomorrow morning, right?”
The old butler guaranteed solemnly: “Please rest assured, Mr. Cheng. The door locking condition has also been checked three times.”
Old Master Cheng relaxed half a breath, still expressionless: “Very good. Ensure all permissions needed to find Xiao Lin are open to him during this period. Don’t let him seek help from other families for things our Cheng family can do ourselves!”
“I heard he borrowed the Qi family’s connections, the Fang family’s online influence, and even the Li family’s intelligence system… Doesn’t our Cheng family have these things?!”
The old butler comforted Old Master Cheng: “Mr. Cheng, in my opinion, Young Master Huanzhen is probably just too anxious… Many hands make light work. Young Master Huanzhen probably just wants to gather strength to the maximum extent.”
Old Master Cheng glared at him dissatisfiedly: “You don’t say!”
Old Master Cheng was in a terrible mood.
He frowned for a long while and said again: “I really don’t believe it. In broad daylight, a living person can disappear on the spot without a clue! …Ensure the missing person notices in major newspapers don’t stop during this period.”
“Xiao Lin isn’t the type to make enemies. If he was really kidnapped, it couldn’t be for his life, it must be for money. The kidnappers held him for three weeks without a sound, and didn’t panic at all facing our search. They don’t seem like simple characters! If Huanzhen contacts them rashly, who knows if he’ll be scammed out of his fortune. Might as well ask the kidnappers to contact me directly…”
The more Old Master Cheng thought about it, the worse his mood became. It was so bad that he hadn’t played chess for a full three weeks!
Old Master Cheng: “Forget it, forget it, not talking about it anymore. I’m going to sleep. Nothing is more important than sleeping! Pay attention to fire prevention, theft prevention, and Huanzhen prevention tonight. I’ve already given him all the permissions I should. If I open my eyes tomorrow morning and see his face again, I’m going to deduct your salary!”
The old butler smiled bitterly and agreed.
Old Master Cheng went to sleep peacefully like this.
However, just as he finally fell into a dream, suddenly, urgent knocking on the door pulled him out of the dream instantly!
Old Master Cheng’s sweet dream was shattered, and he shouted angrily: “Come in!”
The old butler opened the door hurriedly and said: “Mr. Cheng! Young Master Huanzhen suddenly sent a message. He found Mr. Lin!”
Old Master Cheng’s eyes widened, and he sat up from the bed with a swoosh
