ARML CH2
Chapter 2: ABO
Ye Shaoyang pushed the door open, and a white cat came trotting over, rubbing its head back and forth against his pant leg.
He liked cats a lot. This cat looked much like a Ragdoll, with a fluffy white ruff around its neck, a bushy brown squirrel-like tail, and clear, azure-blue eyes. It looked exceptionally sweet and adorable.
Ye Shaoyang casually scooped the cat into his arms and called out as he walked forward, “Is anyone home?”
There was no response, save for a gentle “Meow~” from the cat in his arms.
Ye Shaoyang stroked its head and looked around at his surroundings.
It was a four-bedroom, two-living-room apartment. Looking out from the balcony, the neighborhood environment seemed quite nice. The floor height was likely above the 10th floor, with an estimated interior area exceeding 150 square meters.
At that moment, a smart robot—over a meter tall—was sweeping the floor in the living room.
Seemingly sensing his presence, a blue light illuminated on the robot’s forehead, and a crisp, childish voice issued from its speaker: “Master, today is Wednesday. This is a reminder that you are scheduled for a hospital checkup.”
Ye Shaoyang paused: “Hospital?”
Robot: “You have an appointment today at 2:30 PM with Dr. Qin Yue at the People’s Hospital Pheromone Specialty Clinic. The driver will arrive at the door to pick you up in 10 minutes. Please get ready, Master!”
Ye Shaoyang glanced at the time displayed on the screen across the robot’s chest—
Star Calendar August 20, 2021, 13:50 PM.
It was completely different from the time he got into the car accident. The key detail, however, was “Star Calendar.” Usually, people referenced the Gregorian calendar or the Lunar calendar; this was his first time seeing the term “Star Calendar.”
Could it be that after dying, he had transmigrated to a new world?
Ye Shaoyang felt a bit dazed.
Sensing his uneasiness, the cat in his arms gently rubbed its face against his arm. Holding the cat, Ye Shaoyang carefully observed the area from the balcony. The entire environment was completely unfamiliar. After a moment of hesitation, he turned around, went to the shoe cabinet by the entrance, and put on a pair of shoes.
Since an appointment had been made with the doctor, he should go see the doctor first and take it from there.
Right then, his phone suddenly rang in his pocket. Ye Shaoyang pressed the answer button, and a brisk female voice sounded in his ear: “Hello, Mr. Ye. I’m your ride-hailing driver. Have you stepped out yet?”
Ye Shaoyang said, “Please wait a moment, driver, I’m heading out right now.”
He placed the cat into its cat bed and stroked its head: “I’m going to the hospital for a bit. I’ll be back soon.”
The kitten obediently lay down in its bed, watching him leave.
When he walked out, a car happened to be pulling up at the entrance of the residential complex to wait for him. As he opened the car door, the driver turned back and asked, “Mr. Ye, plate ending in 6676, destination set for the Municipal People’s Hospital, correct?”
“Yes.” Ye Shaoyang sat in the back seat.
The bustling modern metropolis was lined with skyscrapers, with overpasses forming a complex aerial transportation network. Looking through the car window at the traffic passing by with license plates starting with “Star A,” Ye Shaoyang’s eyes were filled with confusion.
Riding in a daze all the way to the hospital, he located the so-called “Pheromone Specialty Clinic.” A young doctor wearing silver-framed glasses waved to him, a warm smile on his face: “Shaoyang, come over quickly. Why do you look so pale?”
Ye Shaoyang sat across from the doctor and said seriously, “Doctor, could you give me a head CT scan to check? I suspect that after the car accident, a tumor grew in my brain, causing me to have hallucinations.”
The doctor froze for a moment, then laughed: “Don’t overthink things. I just checked you up last week. There’s nothing wrong with your body; your differentiation is just taking a bit longer. There have been cases abroad where differentiation happened at age 24. You’re only 21, so there’s no need to rush.”
Ye Shaoyang was bewildered: “Di… Differentiation?”
The doctor explained patiently, “No clear pheromones have been detected in your body yet. However, your parents were an Alpha-Omega union, and your ancestors carried no Beta genes, so you definitely won’t differentiate into a Beta. As for whether you’ll differentiate into an Alpha or an Omega, it cannot be determined yet—the probability is 50% for each.”
Now Ye Shaoyang was even more confused. He looked at the doctor in bewilderment: “Where are my parents?”
The doctor’s expression stiffened. He tested Ye Shaoyang’s forehead temperature with the back of his hand: “No fever? Let me re-examine you.” He brought Ye Shaoyang into the consultation room. After finishing the examination, the doctor stared at the results on the computer, frowning and muttering to himself: “His brain is fine, so why does it seem like he has amnesia?”
Feeling anxious, Ye Shaoyang whispered, “There are indeed many things I can’t remember clearly.”
“Your parents passed away in a car accident a week ago. Perhaps their passing was too big of a shock to you, and psychologically, you don’t want to accept this reality, which is why you’re having hallucinations.” The doctor patted his shoulder, his tone softening: “I am your cousin, Qin Yue. I’m also deeply saddened by uncle’s tragic death, but there is no way to change what has already happened. Try to accept it slowly. You are still young; you can’t stay despondent like this forever.”
Ye Shaoyang: “…”
He didn’t have a cousin named Qin Yue at all.
Dr. Qin Yue stood up and handed him a glass of water: “How about this: I’ll go request a specialist from the psychology department to give you a psychological consultation. Wait for me here.”
After the doctor stepped out, Ye Shaoyang finally snapped out of his daze. He turned around, went into the restroom, and splashed cold water onto his face.
Looking up, a fair-skinned, blonde young man appeared in the mirror, looking handsome and bright. Ye Shaoyang reached out and ruffled his hair—there were no signs of hair dye. Judging by these features, was he a mixed-race person?
After washing his face, Ye Shaoyang walked back to sit at the desk like a marionette, staring at the wall in deep thought.
So, he had died in a car accident, and his soul had come to another world?
That was the only explanation that made sense of all these puzzling points.
Ye Shaoyang took a deep breath to calm down. He quickly pulled out his phone, opened the browser, and typed key terms like “LOL,” “GD Esports,” and “Captain Sunshine” into the search box. The results all showed: No relevant content found.
—This really was another world!
Thinking back to the term “differentiation” mentioned by the doctor earlier, it sounded like it had a great deal to do with his physical development?
Ye Shaoyang typed “differentiation” into the search box. This time, over thirty million results popped up, with official encyclopedia-like records displayed at the very top.
【Differentiation: Refers to the process during puberty when hormone levels in the body reach a peak, stimulating gland development, which subsequently leads to the emergence of three potential genders: Alpha, Beta, and Omega. Typically, adolescents complete differentiation between the ages of 16 and 18, though delayed differentiation cases exist in clinical practice.】
Ye Shaoyang: “??”
He could read every single character, but why couldn’t he understand them when put together?
Three potential genders? What on earth was that?
Curiously, he clicked into “Related Information,” only to see even more unfamiliar vocabulary.
Pheromones, Omega gland, susceptibility period, marking, reproductive cavity…
The more Ye Shaoyang read, the more shocked he became. By the end, his mouth was wide open, enough to fit an egg inside.
This world is so damn freaky!
In addition to male and female, humans actually had three potential secondary genders: Alpha, Beta, and Omega. Which meant humans had a total of 6 genders.
Among them, both male and female Omegas and Betas had the ability to bear children. Omegas had an easier time getting pregnant, Betas had lower fertility rates, while Alphas could not give birth themselves but could get others pregnant. Alphas and Omegas carried distinct pheromone scents. Furthermore, during an Omega’s heat period, they would uncontrollably seek out an Alpha to mark them?
Marking? It sounded just like stamping a seal.
After curiously reading through the “ABO Science Overview” essay, Ye Shaoyang had his worldview thoroughly shattered.
Regardless of male or female, anyone could bear children?
To boost the birth rate, you people are really going all out! The male comrades of this world are truly formidable.
Just as Ye Shaoyang was stunned, Dr. Qin pushed open the door and stepped in: “Shaoyang, the specialists in the psychology department are fully booked for today. How about you come back tomorrow morning? He’ll have time tomorrow morning.”
Ye Shaoyang’s fingertips twitched, and he swiftly put away his phone, letting out a forced laugh: “Cousin, I don’t need a psychological consultation. I was just joking with you earlier.”
It wasn’t a psychological issue; it was just that this body now housed a different soul. Naturally, he didn’t remember anything about this body, nor did he remember the death of his parents.
Qin Yue looked at him with concern: “Are you really okay?”
“Mm.”
“Then what are your plans for the future?”
Ye Shaoyang froze: “The future?”
Qin Yue said, “Uncle and Aunt are both gone, and no one is taking care of you. I remember you studied baking for three years. Why not try opening a private bakery? If you need money, I can lend you some.”
He was now an orphan and indeed needed to consider how to support himself. But… opening a bakery? He had zero interest in making sweets!
Ye Shaoyang cleared his throat softly: “I’ll go home and think about it carefully first. Thanks, Cousin.”
Qin Yue nodded: “Alright. If you run into any difficulties, remember to reach out to me anytime.”
Ye Shaoyang stood up and bade farewell to Qin Yue, who helped him call a ride to send him home.
On the way back, thoughts swirled in Ye Shaoyang’s mind—his original self had likely died in the car accident. Hearing this tragic news, his friends and family would surely be heartbroken.
He felt sorry to his parents, sorry to his teammates, sorry to the coach who cultivated him, and sorry to the fans who supported him.
Now that he had arrived alone in this strange world, what should he do next?
Upon arriving home, Ye Shaoyang unlocked the door with his fingerprint. As soon as he stepped inside, he heard “Meow meow” sounds. He quickly ran over and scooped the cat out of its bed: “Hungry?”
Team GD used to raise a cat as well, so he was very skilled at cat care. He quickly poured out cat food and placed the bowl down for the kitten to eat.
Watching the white cat gobbling down its food, Ye Shaoyang couldn’t help but reach out to stroke its head: “From now on, it’s just the two of us depending on each other. Don’t worry, I’ll take good care of you.”
The cat was focused entirely on its meal and offered no response.
Ye Shaoyang noticed a small, exquisite pet tag hanging around its neck, which bore its name: Little White.
Ye Shaoyang asked curiously, “Do you cats divide into Alpha cats and Omega cats? Can male cats give birth to kittens?”
The cat: “Meow meow meow???”
Ye Shaoyang rubbed Little White’s head, feeling like an idiot for talking to a cat.
He turned around, sat back on the sofa, and began pondering his future plans.
Opening a store and running a business? Forget it. With his business acumen, the shop would go bankrupt within half a month.
What should he do to support himself?
In his past life, his academic grades hadn’t been great, but he possessed immense talent for gaming. At 16, he entered the youth training camp and became the top prospect of that year’s draft. At 17, he signed with the top domestic powerhouse, Team GD, and won the Best Rookie of the Year award.
However, during his years with the team, Team GD underwent major upheavals. Veteran players were constantly retiring, and the lineup was perpetually in a stage of adjustment. After competing for several years, although they won the domestic championship twice, they never managed to win a World Championship.
This was the main reason internet trolls hated on him, as well as his own greatest regret.
Should he continue to compete?
That game on the computer yesterday, Gods’ War, was also a 5v5 MOBA tower-pushing game. He had played games of this genre for many years, possessing a solid foundation along with rich tournament experience, so it should be easy to pick up.
In any case, he had always been stubborn—someone who wouldn’t give up until he hit a dead end.
Just because he hadn’t won a World Championship before didn’t mean he couldn’t win one after being granted a second life, right?
Having made up his mind, Ye Shaoyang picked up the well-fed kitten and walked toward the study.
His doctor cousin was right—there was no way to change what had already happened, so he could only accept reality.
Since Heaven had given him a second chance at life, he ought to grasp it firmly.
