He Is Constantly Jealous Of Himself

JOH CH118: A Sense of Security?

Scenes of Gu Yuanting being jealous of himself flashed through his mind—those days of diligently practicing cherry stem tricks, mastering bedroom skills, obsessively wanting to outdo himself. He couldn’t help but curse himself as an idiot inside.

Not only that, the amnesiac version of him had schemed to remarry Su Yiran and eagerly awaited their “newlywed night,” only to finish instantly.

Useless! Worthless!

Seeing Su Yiran’s thoughtful expression, Ting-ge knew exactly what was running through Ranran’s mind. His face darkened and lightened repeatedly as he ground his molars.

Su Yiran saw Ting-ge’s expression and knew something was wrong. He panicked and tried to smooth things over: “Ting-Ting-ge, don’t misunderstand. I was just reminded of that time. I’m definitely not blaming you for finishing too fast, really, definitely not.”

Ting-ge: “…”

Su Yiran: “…”

Determined to prove himself, Ting-ge clenched his teeth and, without saying more, got straight to work.

Concerned about Ting-ge’s head injury, Su Yiran was heartbroken that he insisted on going at it with a wound. He agreed but after one round, in a trembling voice, stopped him: “N-no, you have an injury…”

Ting-ge, panting, reluctantly paused. Unsure if he had proved anything, he kissed Ranran and asked expectantly, “Was it good?”

Su Yiran blushed, his legs still shaking. He felt weak all over and could only melt into Ting-ge’s embrace, too limp even to lift a finger. “…”

Now, regret filled him deeply.

Holding the limp Ranran in his arms, Ting-ge loved him so much and kissed him tenderly, while still brooding over that earlier issue: “Better than the amnesiac me, right?”

Su Yiran: “………………”

Again???

Ranran’s face lost all color, his legs stopped trembling, and expressionless, he pushed Ting-ge away, not even bothering to look at him.

Ignoring him.

Crazy.

Seeing Ranran push him away, Ting-ge quickly pulled him close again and kissed him twice. “I was just joking.”

But inside, he still felt sour, like he was competing with the amnesiac version of himself, and cursed himself silently.

Am I crazy?

“…”

“…”

After a dumb silence, they tacitly dropped the subject. Ting-ge held Ranran, went to the bathroom to shower again, then they crawled into bed together.

That night, Ting-ge was already asleep, but Su Yiran unusually woke up. Though his body wanted to rest, his mind wasn’t sleepy.

He was thinking about Ting-ge.

Since Gu Yuanting woke from unconsciousness and recovered his memory, several days had passed. Su Yiran felt Ting-ge wasn’t quite right.

After Dr. Sun’s diagnosis confirmed Ting-ge’s depression had healed, Su Yiran had let his guard down, thinking everything was over. But these past few days—from Ting-ge’s frantic desire to buy back his old car after discharge to yesterday’s wild garbage-digging for the wedding ring—

Though funny and looking like a fool—

Su Yiran seriously pondered.

Was it really just because he was silly?

Their short stay on the island ended quickly. The next day after breakfast, they flew straight home, arriving that night.

Su Yiran explained to his parents that the overseas trip was due to urgent work. They didn’t ask much, only reminding them to take care of their health since money isn’t everything and not to overwork.

Su Yiran and Ting-ge both agreed.

Two days later, Su Yiran took Gu Yuanting for a follow-up at the hospital. Neurosurgeon Dr. Liu examined him and smiled, saying Ting-ge’s recovery was excellent and he should be fully healed within a week.

After checking the head injury, Su Yiran brought Ting-ge to see Dr. Sun again.

To be cautious, Dr. Sun gave Ting-ge another psychological assessment and communicated with him for some time. Finally reassured, he confirmed Ting-ge’s depression was indeed fully cured.

Thinking about his concerns, Su Yiran chatted alone with Dr. Sun and briefly described Ting-ge’s recent behaviors.

Dr. Sun: “…”

Despite his vast clinical experience, Dr. Sun found himself twitching a bit at the stories, feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Su Yiran felt embarrassed too, blushing on Ting-ge’s behalf.

But after a long silence, Dr. Sun pondered carefully. The more he thought, the deeper his frown became. After asking Su Yiran several detailed questions, he fell into contemplation.

“Mr. Gu’s condition is, in some ways, normal,” Dr. Sun finally said. “He’s so attached to those old belongings because he cherishes you, Mr. Su, and thus treasures those items especially.”

Su Yiran knew this and nodded, waiting for Dr. Sun’s next words.

As expected, Dr. Sun shifted tone: “However, from your description, Mr. Gu’s reactions seem somewhat excessive—such as panic and grief upon losing old belongings, or being devastated when the wedding ring was lost.”

“Underlying these behaviors is a severe lack of security,” Dr. Sun analyzed, “Deep inside, he worries about your relationship—or fears you might leave him. That’s why even small possessions are precious and feared lost.”

“Sense of security…” Su Yiran murmured.

Dr. Sun asked, “So I want to ask, before Mr. Gu’s amnesia, did your relationship have problems? Any signs?”

Su Yiran was confused, a little heartbroken and sad. He recalled their years of dating and marriage and slowly shook his head. “No signs. I thought… we were very happy.”

He believed he and Ting-ge were good, happy, and that Ting-ge felt the same.

During amnesia, Ting-ge suffered from depression and insecurity, which Su Yiran had attributed to childhood trauma and later to the amnesia itself.

The insecure feelings during that period made sense.

But now that Ting-ge’s memory had returned and he fully remembered their years of love, why was he still lacking security?

Had Su Yiran not done enough? Had he not made Ting-ge happy?

At this point, Dr. Sun smiled: “Security and happiness don’t conflict. Perhaps because of great happiness, those who were once unhappy often fear losing it, resulting in insecurity.”

Su Yiran was taken aback.

“But often, psychological security must come from oneself,” Dr. Sun said, “Not from others. I believe, Mr. Su, you’ve already given Mr. Gu enough love.”

Dr. Sun had seen how much Su Yiran cared for Gu Yuanting all along.

Dr. Sun concluded, “To resolve Mr. Gu’s security issues, we must find the root inside him and help him tackle it personally.”

Su Yiran nodded uncertainly. He then asked his biggest concern: “Could this cause Ting-ge’s depression to relapse?”

Dr. Sun answered, “Lack of security is common nowadays and usually doesn’t cause depression. Although Mr. Gu is very insecure, current psychological assessments show no depressive tendencies.”

Smiling, Dr. Sun added, “This also shows that Mr. Gu and you live happily. His security issues are more like a subhealthy psychological state.”

Only then did Su Yiran relax. He thought it over again and felt less confused. He was sure Ting-ge loved him and they both felt happiness together.

Ting-ge’s insecurity would take time to improve.

Afterwards, Su Yiran told Dr. Sun about Ting-ge’s recent cognitive confusion.

Dr. Sun nodded knowingly: “Mr. Gu just recovered memories and was triggered by losing old things. Some confusion—like reversed memories or denying his amnesiac self—is normal. How does Mr. Gu behave?”

Su Yiran hesitated and softly said, “Well, after regaining memory, Ting-ge seems to get jealous of his amnesiac self.”

Dr. Sun: “…”

Dr. Sun twitched at the corner of his mouth and muttered, “…uh, oh… this…”

Su Yiran: “…”
