JOH CH15: Competing for Affection
Su Yiran’s collarbones were covered in kiss marks and bites from Gu Yuanting. His pale skin quickly turned red. The pain made him cry out involuntarily. When he caught a glimpse of blood welling up from Gu Yuanting’s right hand again, he panicked. He had no mind for intimacy at that moment. Struggling with his restrained hands, he tried to check: “Your hand… it’s bleeding!”
A loud clap of thunder rang out, followed by a long rumble. The steady rain turned into a torrential downpour, pounding heavily outside the window.
Gu Yuanting easily overpowered Su Yiran, ignoring his struggles and cries, his lips trailing down from his collarbone…
Fine. He would just keep him locked by his side forever…
Shut inside a room, to be possessed and used only by him…
No one else would get to see him again…
Su Yiran keenly sensed that Gu Yuanting’s emotional state was off.
He stopped resisting, his body going soft, allowing Gu Yuanting’s actions. He couldn’t help letting out a soft whimper of pain: “Ting-ge…”
Gu Yuanting noticed how Su Yiran’s body suddenly relaxed. In the midst of his burning desire, he looked up and saw the pitiful marks he had left on Su Yiran’s body—shocking under the light.
…What was he doing?
He snapped out of it suddenly, slowly stopping.
…Was this r*pe?
Gu Yuanting scoffed at himself. He let go of Su Yiran and stood up, silently taking off his coat and covering Su Yiran with it before turning away.
Seeing Gu Yuanting calm down, Su Yiran sat up, hurriedly put on the coat, and quickly buttoned it up before going to pull Gu Yuanting back: “Let me see your hand.”
Gu Yuanting was tugged by the hem of his shirt. He said nothing and sat back down on the sofa.
Su Yiran held his right hand and checked it. Sure enough, a few small wounds had split open again, and blood was seeping out. The medicine applied earlier had been smeared. He frowned in distress, took out cotton swabs and antiseptic from the first aid kit, and began treating him again, carefully wrapping it with medical gauze.
Throughout the process, Gu Yuanting didn’t move a muscle and quietly let him tend to the wound.
When Su Yiran finished wrapping the gauze, he finally relaxed. Holding Gu Yuanting’s bandaged hand, he gently kissed his defined fingers and said softly, “All done. Don’t move it anymore.”
Gu Yuanting’s heart clenched from that kiss.
Su Yiran leaned closer, wrapping his arms around him and asked softly, “What happened just now?”
Thinking it through, he realized the reason and couldn’t help but laugh helplessly. “You were that jealous?”
He was always an ambitious person, hoping to build a better life with hard work and pursue the career he loved. Now that the opportunity was in front of him, he truly didn’t want to give up streaming.
Su Yiran tried reasoning again. “Those people in the comments, they’re just strangers behind screens making silly jokes. Young people joke like that all the time. In real life, they all have their own lives—just like we do.”
He turned Gu Yuanting toward him, cupping his face and looking into his eyes: “We have our own life too. We’re partners who’ll walk through life together, Ting-ge.”
Gu Yuanting was moved by the words through life. He repeated quietly, “Through life?”
Su Yiran nodded firmly. “Yes.”
Gu Yuanting asked softly, “You’ll always stay by my side, no matter what?”
Su Yiran replied, “Of course.”
Gu Yuanting stared into his eyes—bottomless and black: “No matter what happens? Even if…” Even if one day you find out… I’m not actually the one you love.
Su Yiran didn’t understand the implication and naturally assumed it meant life and death. “Of course. Even through life and death.”
Gu Yuanting heard only the promise he wanted. He slowly nodded. “Good.”
Then his tone dropped, cold and low: “If you betray me, I’ll kill you.”
“….” Su Yiran’s eyebrow twitched. But knowing Gu Yuanting’s temperament, he didn’t bother correcting him with legal facts and simply humored him, “Okay.”
Gu Yuanting finally relaxed and pulled Su Yiran tightly into his arms.
Su Yiran still worried about his hand. “Be careful. Don’t move it too much.”
Reminded of his injury, Gu Yuanting recalled how hard he had gripped Su Yiran’s wrists earlier. He lifted one to check—sure enough, both wrists were red. They looked pitiful.
His gaze darkened. With his rough thumb, he gently rubbed the marks, then gave in to his impulse and kissed his wrist. “Did I hurt you?”
Su Yiran shook his head. “It’s not too bad.” Not wanting him to feel guilty, he changed the subject. “So… does that mean you’ll let me continue streaming?”
“…” Gu Yuanting replied, “No.”
“…” Su Yiran was speechless. He had thought he’d talked him around. So all his reasoning was for nothing?
He tried again. “We’re partners. You should support my career. I’ve always supported yours too, haven’t I?” He added, “And you know those online people are just strangers we’ve never met.”
Su Yiran remembered how two days ago, Gu Yuanting had vowed he’d always support him. But now he was reneging, and even got this jealous. Su Yiran mumbled, “You promised me… You can’t just go back on your word.”
Gu Yuanting said nothing.
He regretted it deeply now. Finally, he understood why the original host had opposed Su Yiran streaming.
But it was too late.
“…In any case, no,” Gu Yuanting insisted.
Seeing Su Yiran’s unhappy expression, he pulled him into his lap possessively, hugging him tightly and kissing his forehead. “You’re mine.”
“I am yours,” Su Yiran mumbled against him.
That response lifted Gu Yuanting’s mood.
Su Yiran added, “And you’re mine too.”
He kissed Gu Yuanting’s chin and said sincerely, “But I really want to stream.”
Seeing that Gu Yuanting still wasn’t budging, Su Yiran started to worry. He reflected on whether he had failed to make him feel secure. “Are you feeling insecure? Did I not give you enough of a sense of security?”
He wrapped his arms around Gu Yuanting’s neck and gently kissed his lips, looking into his eyes.
“I love you, Ting-ge.”
Gu Yuanting was shaken by his words.
Looking into his eyes, he saw genuine affection—tender and full.
As if Su Yiran really loved him, deeply.
Su Yiran added, “And during the livestream, I can’t even see what most of the comments say. I’ve already blocked tons of keywords. I don’t interact with them at all.”
He kissed Gu Yuanting again. This was the second time he initiated it, and his cheeks flushed with heat. Despite his shyness, he softly pleaded, “Ting-ge, trust me. Please say yes, okay?”
Gu Yuanting looked at him, wavering under his plea, but—
Su Yiran noticed he wasn’t budging and thought of the past. He murmured, “You weren’t this jealous back when we were in college.”
Technically, if he really wanted to, he could still stream—he was his own person, after all. Gu Yuanting could oppose, but he couldn’t stop him.
Still, Su Yiran really hoped his career could have the support and encouragement of the person he loved.
Back in university, even though Gu Yuanting had always disapproved of streaming, he’d never directly said no—just subtly discouraged it. But Su Yiran had known, if he had gone ahead with it, Gu Yuanting would still have supported him.
Why did it feel like he had regressed after a few years of marriage?
“Before?” Gu Yuanting asked.
“Yeah…” Su Yiran said. “Back then, you’d have agreed already.”
He mumbled, “You’ve gotten worse…”
To him, this was about mutual support and trust in a relationship—it really mattered.
Gu Yuanting took a deep breath.
He closed his eyes to steady himself and asked, “Do you really like streaming?”
Su Yiran thought for a moment. “It’s fun. I can interact with other people who love desserts. I can promote the things I make.” He affirmed, “I like it.”
“And the first stream went really well today. If I keep going, maybe I can turn our desserts into a trendy brand, and our business can grow.”
His eyes lit up as he described his dream, trying to lure Gu Yuanting in. “Maybe one day, ‘Yi Ting’ can become a famous brand, with franchise stores all over the country. Wouldn’t that be exciting?”
Even though he knew it was a fantasy and mostly a sales pitch, he still got excited thinking about the possibility.
Knowing what was really bothering Gu Yuanting, he tempted him further: “Our brand name would be on signs all across the country—‘Yi Ting’—and everyone would see how our names sound like they belong together. The whole world would know we’re a couple. How about it?”
He looked up at him expectantly, eyes sparkling.
“…” Gu Yuanting was quiet for a while, then finally nodded slowly. “Okay.”
