PRYM CH92: Spring Night
If the moon could take human form, it would surely look like Little Uncle.
Bringing light, but not as blinding as the sun.
The myriad stars would pale in comparison, and the world would bow before him.
Cheng Huanzhen squatted on the ground in a daze. When he turned his head, his hands, still in the middle of tying his shoelaces, froze there, motionless.
It wasn’t until Little Uncle, not receiving an answer, bent down, propped his hands on his knees, and leaned his head in front of him with expectant eyes, staring at him, that he finally opened his mouth.
“Ah…”
His voice was inexplicably hoarse, as if he had forgotten how to speak.
He subconsciously called out, “Little Uncle.”
Perhaps his dazed appearance pleased Little Uncle.
Little Uncle let out a light chuckle, “Pfft,” and stretched his head over his shoulder, their cheeks separated by only about two centimeters.
Little Uncle’s body heat crossed the two centimeters of spring night, warming his face as well.
Little Uncle peeked down. “What are you doing here? These aren’t your shoes.”
Cheng Huanzhen felt his throat tighten, too hoarse to answer.
A minute ago, his chest was still churning with countless unpleasant emotions. These emotions had been accumulating for a full two months, filling his chest until it was bulging.
But at this moment, it was as if a sweet rain had fallen from heaven, bringing countless joys, crashing into his chest in an incredible way.
The capacity of the emotional “balloon” hidden in his chest was like it was fake—
A minute ago, he felt they were so crowded they were about to burst at any moment!
But now? Waves of joy crashed into his chest, and however much came, the “balloon” accommodated it, showing no sign of bursting. Instead, it made the air in his chest feel a little lighter, and even his breathing could become deeper.
Cheng Huanzhen: “…Little Uncle.”
He called out again.
Cheng Huanzhen: “Little Uncle. Little Uncle. Little Uncle. Little Uncle.”
He called out several more times.
As if to confirm.
And as if his dazed brain was running on its own.
Little Uncle laughed. “What’s wrong, Big Nephew? You’ve called me so many times.”
The driver on the side was getting anxious. Seeing that the young master couldn’t even speak properly, he answered for him, “Young Master Yiming, Young Master Huanzhen is changing his shoes, waiting to go in and get you!”
Little Uncle’s mouth fell open in an exaggerated way, his hands placed in front of his mouth. “Go in and get me!”
Little Uncle turned his head back, his beautiful eyes filled with a beaming smile.
He asked him, “Big Nephew, is that true?”
Cheng Huanzhen: “…”
Cheng Huanzhen’s face was stiff, a bit stern. “Not ‘get’.”
He paused and said hoarsely, “I just wanted to go in and ask Little Uncle if he wanted to leave with me.”
Little Uncle clasped his hands together. “Is there even a need to ask? My good Big Nephew, let me crash at your place. I was kicked out by Dad, and now I have nowhere to go. How pitiful!”
Little Uncle said this with a smile.
There was no hint of pity in his tone. Instead, it made people feel that Little Uncle was happy at this moment.
But Cheng Huanzhen was not happy about this. He was angry.
Cheng Huanzhen pressed his lips together tightly and asked, “Why did Grandfather kick you out? How could he kick you out?”
He was a little hesitant, a little nervous. “Is it because… of what happened when I went to see Grandfather just now?”
Little Uncle was puzzled, not knowing what this was about.
He just shrugged indifferently and said, “Maybe Dad has grown a pair of eyes—but that’s not important, Big Nephew.”
Little Uncle’s eyes curved into a smile, and he patted his head (was Little Uncle trying to show his seniority?… he was a little embarrassed to tell Little Uncle that he hadn’t succeeded), then bent down and took his hand to pull him up. “Anyway, I’m already out. Big Nephew, you don’t have to go into the old mansion to snatch me anymore!”
Cheng Huanzhen blinked slowly, his mouth open for a long time, and finally squeezed out a sentence, “Oh. Okay, Little Uncle.”
He and the driver swapped shoes, and he got back into the car with Little Uncle.
Little Uncle was still as chatty and energetic as when he had seen him during the winter break. Perhaps because he had spoken less during his time at the old mansion, Little Uncle seemed particularly talkative now.
He asked about his life, why he wasn’t wearing the clothes he had helped him pick, whether he had been watering the three potted plants with his own hands, why he hadn’t come to the old mansion to see him for the past few months…
Cheng Huanzhen couldn’t answer.
Even though he was trying his best to answer Little Uncle’s questions, it was still difficult to keep up. After just a few questions, he was easily rendered speechless by Little Uncle.
After asking several questions and only getting simple answers, Little Uncle pouted, shifted his butt, and scooted right next to him.
Just like the first night they had met, Little Uncle leaned his head in “fiercely” and asked him, “Big Nephew, why aren’t you talking? Are you not happy to see me? Don’t you have anything you want to say to me?”
This question, Cheng Huanzhen knew.
He nervously replied at once, “I’m not unhappy! Little Uncle, I’m very happy. But I just…”
Cheng Huanzhen was at a loss as to how to express to Little Uncle the chaotic emotions filling his “balloon” at this moment.
He struggled to say to Little Uncle, “But I was unhappy just now, and I had a fight with Grandfather. I don’t know why Grandfather suddenly let you out. I… I’m a bit of a mess right now. I don’t know what I should do.”
Little Uncle blinked twice and tilted his head.
Cheng Huanzhen was too lost, too helpless. Every time Little Uncle moved a little closer, he would nervously move a little further back.
One move, another move, and he was pressed against the car window again.
Little Uncle suddenly sighed.
Little Uncle looked at him helplessly and asked, “Big Nephew, how come you don’t even know how to express happiness?”
Cheng Huanzhen: “…”
Cheng Huanzhen was lost and confused. “I… don’t I?”
Little Uncle’s eyes curved, and he suddenly brought up, “You haven’t said it yet, Big Nephew. Do you miss me?”
…Did he really have to say it out loud?
Cheng Huanzhen’s throat was tight. He said in a low voice, “I miss you, Little Uncle.”
Little Uncle smiled with satisfaction and said, “Then, now open your arms, give me a gentle hug, and then say to me: ‘Yes, Little Uncle, I missed you very much. Welcome back.'”
…What? Open his arms, and then what?
Cheng Huanzhen’s brain went blank for a moment.
He blinked slowly and blankly. It wasn’t until Little Uncle started to urge him with his eyes, dissatisfied, that he hesitantly, fearfully, cautiously, and stiffly opened his arms a little.
He gave Little Uncle a light, stiff hug.
He hoarsely mimicked, “Yes, Little Uncle, I missed you very much. Welcome back.”
This was his first friendly and polite hug with Little Uncle.
The overly fragrant tuberose perfume on Little Uncle’s body formed a thick, intense cloud around his nose and body, imprisoning him, making it difficult to escape, difficult to breathe.
When you’re happy, you should hug.
…right?
A hug. Such an unfamiliar feeling. A hug. Unfamiliar. His heart was beating. They were all beating.
Little Uncle’s perfume was so strong.
Why wasn’t he wearing the sachet he had given him?
That one was lighter, smelled better. Why wasn’t he wearing it? Was Little Uncle actually angry with him?
…He didn’t know.
The small, unhappy emotion had just been born for half a second—
Little Uncle bloomed into an even bigger smile because of the hug.
Little Uncle hugged him back tightly and said, “Thank you, Big Nephew. I missed you too.”
“Alright, now you know how, Big Nephew. When you don’t know how to express happiness, just open your arms and hug the person next to you!”
—and his annoyance vanished.
Cheng Huanzhen nodded and seriously memorized, “Okay, Little Uncle, I’ve got it.”
It was as if pure white, cool snowflakes had fallen from his heart along with Little Uncle’s words, slowly calming the churning, burning, mixed emotions that had been accumulating in his chest.
What anger, what discomfort, what grandfather, what old mansion, were all suppressed and out of sight.
Cheng Huanzhen thought, Little Uncle probably had such a wonderful ability to make people happy.
Little Uncle was amazing.
Little Uncle was so amazing.
It was already late, and they should have gone straight home.
But Cheng Huanzhen thought of the original plan for the night at home and suddenly didn’t want to go home.
He could recite the contents of the plan with his eyes closed. It was nothing more than:
Work. Work. And then work.
…Compared to continuing to execute the plan, he would rather continue to sit in this car.
Drive a little longer. Sit a little longer. And then go straight back to sleep.
That would be very comfortable.
He thought of it and said it to Little Uncle.
Little Uncle tilted his head. “Don’t want to work—then why don’t we go out and play?”
Cheng Huanzhen: “…”
Cheng Huanzhen thought seriously, and Cheng Huanzhen answered seriously, “Because it’s dark.”
Little Uncle’s eyebrows shot up. “So what if it’s dark? After the founding of the nation, spirits are not allowed to form. You won’t encounter a hundred ghosts parading at night if you go out!”
As always, Little Uncle did as he thought. He decided excitedly, “Let’s go, let’s go for a walk by the river!”
Cheng Huanzhen had no choice.
And there were no other choices in his brain.
He just followed Little Uncle. He followed Little Uncle to the riverside, followed Little Uncle along the small path, followed Little Uncle walking and stopping without any pattern.
He watched Little Uncle point at him. “Big Nephew, look at that butterfly! Isn’t it beautiful? Watch me sneak up—oops, it flew away!”
He listened to Little Uncle smile at him. “Big Nephew, you see, if you encounter wind when you walk at night, you should stop, close your eyes, and open your arms—yes, do you feel it? A super gentle wind, very comfortable, right?”
Then, following Little Uncle’s rhythm, he looked at flowers, kicked pebbles, counted stars…
Cheng Huanzhen didn’t know what was so good to see, nor did he understand the meaning of it.
But as he followed Little Uncle step by step, with each step, the chaotic emotions accumulated in his chest decreased by one layer.
As he walked, his chest became spacious, the space for his heart to beat became wider, and the air he could breathe into his lungs became more.
He didn’t know how long they had walked when Little Uncle suddenly turned his head and said to him with a smile, “Big Nephew, you see, the night view here is very beautiful, isn’t it?”
…Beautiful?
Cheng Huanzhen didn’t know.
He didn’t feel anything about it.
But Little Uncle’s perception had always been very strong. Since Little Uncle said it was beautiful, then it must be beautiful.
Cheng Huanzhen looked at Little Uncle.
After not seeing him for more than two months, Little Uncle’s hair had grown a little longer.
His bangs had also grown longer, so Little Uncle had clipped them up, revealing a full and smooth forehead, making him look clean and magnanimous.
Cheng Huanzhen looked left and right, and felt that Little Uncle should look at himself more.
This was more beautiful than the stars, the night wind, the flowers, and the butterflies.
Cheng Huanzhen suddenly asked, “Little Uncle, did Grandfather give you a hard time at the old mansion?”
Little Uncle said casually, “Hmm, a hard time? There were so many! Dad didn’t let me be a picky eater, didn’t let me go out, didn’t let me stay up late, didn’t let me be noisy…”
Cheng Huanzhen thought to himself, not letting Little Uncle be noisy was too much. He asked further, “Did Grandfather want you to learn anything?”
Little Uncle looked at him in confusion. “Learn what?”
Cheng Huanzhen: “…”
Cheng Huanzhen didn’t know whether he should be relieved that Little Uncle had not received his grandfather’s education, or be disappointed that Little Uncle had been brought back to the old mansion seemingly entirely because of himself.
He didn’t know. So he closed his mouth again.
But after a moment of silence, his rarely relaxed brain came up with another question.
He nervously tugged at Little Uncle’s sleeve and asked him in a low voice, “Little Uncle, then will you think that what I did today to annoy Grandfather was wrong?”
He paused and explained, “Others always say that this is a very bad deal. They say that if I lose the inheritance because I angered Grandfather, I will definitely regret it in the future… but I don’t know where this regret is.”
Little Uncle was stunned.
Lin Chen smiled and said, “Regret it or not, how would you know now? Both paths have their gains and losses. In my opinion, Big Nephew, you should just walk the path you currently believe is right.”
Cheng Huanzhen let out a soft “oh,” and felt that what Little Uncle said made a lot of sense.
But: “But… I angered Grandfather, and he might freeze my bank card. If Little Uncle you are caught by Grandfather and taken abroad again, I… I might not be able to raise enough money in time to buy you a plane ticket back.”
Cheng Huanzhen was very troubled and was thinking very seriously.
He was a little nervous, afraid that Little Uncle would be scared and run back to the old mansion on his own.
But he didn’t expect Little Uncle to be stunned for a moment, then suddenly burst out laughing, clutching his stomach. He laughed so hard he couldn’t stand straight, and he had to reach out and hold onto him to keep from falling into the flower bushes on the side.
Little Uncle laughed until tears came out. “Big Nephew, look at what you’re considering… hahaha… you’re thinking too far ahead, Big Nephew!”
“Let’s not talk about other things. Actually, your Little Uncle here is not completely broke. The money I’ve saved… oh! Converted to domestic currency, it’s over fifty thousand!”
Little Uncle did a quick calculation and got excited. “Over fifty thousand! We can go on a trip. Big Nephew, when are you free? Let’s go on a trip!”
Cheng Huanzhen: “I…”
Little Uncle: “Oh my, over fifty thousand, we can travel for a long time, right? When is your summer vacation? Why don’t we travel for the whole summer vacation!”
Cheng Huanzhen: “…”
Cheng Huanzhen tried to adapt to this familiar yet strangely unfamiliar vocabulary. “Travel? For a whole summer vacation?”
Little Uncle, don’t you have to work? Oh, Little Uncle indeed didn’t have to work.
…What about him?
He had such a big fight with his grandfather. Did he still need to continue working?
Would Grandfather… would Grandfather kick him out of the Cheng family directly tomorrow?
…But, he had even kicked his grandfather’s desk.
Cheng Huanzhen thought, there probably wasn’t anything more serious than this in the world.
So he answered Little Uncle seriously, “Okay, Little Uncle. I will get a bank card that Grandfather doesn’t know about, and then save up the travel expenses in advance.”
They finally got on the car to go home before the clock struck midnight.
Cheng Huanzhen still felt that the events of this night were a bit too incredible.
Whether it was his argument with his grandfather, his outrageous act of kicking the table, or the fact that he had picked up Little Uncle after the argument, all of this was something he had never thought of before today.
But just then, he suddenly remembered something, his face changed, and he immediately took out his phone and began to operate it quickly.
Little Uncle was a little curious and leaned over to take a look. “Big Nephew, what are you doing?”
Cheng Huanzhen immediately turned his phone away.
He tensed his back nervously and said, “Little Uncle, wait for me a moment. Don’t look.”
Little Uncle blinked his eyes expectantly, and disappointedly pulled his head back. “Alright, actually I’m not that curious…”
At home.
The butler who received the message’s eyes widened in shock, and he jumped up from the sofa.
He joyfully and urgently called for people. “Quick, quick, go to the warehouse and get the red-edged box, take out all the clothes inside, and hang them back in the young master’s wardrobe!”
“Someone else, yes, you, come with me to Mr. Cheng’s room to move three potted plants. Quick! The young master and his uncle are less than ten minutes away from home. We must finish before they arrive, quick!”
