PRYM CH170: Visit
The moment Cheng Huanzhen picked up his phone, Cheng Zhaorui was already quietly observing his son’s expression.
Look at that speed in picking up the phone, look at that speed in unlocking the screen—who else could be on the other side? It must be his daughter-in-law whom he hadn’t met yet!
Cheng Zhaorui’s heart drummed. He stretched his neck discreetly, trying to steal a glance at his son’s phone.
However, before his head could reach the appropriate height, his son’s expression changed. With a harsh scraping sound of the chair against the floor, his son put down his chopsticks and stood up!
Cheng Zhaorui was startled: “It’s so late, where are you going?!”
His son looked a bit anxious. He slammed down his chopsticks, and before he had even fully stood up, he was already taking a step forward.
Cheng Huanzhen answered quickly: “I have something to attend to. Dad, eat by yourself, rest early tonight, goodbye.”
Cheng Zhaorui: “??”
Cheng Zhaorui turned pale with fright!
He didn’t even have time to wipe his mouth. He hurriedly got up and strode forward, knocking a chair askew on the way, before he finally grabbed Cheng Huanzhen’s arm.
Cheng Zhaorui: “Wait, wait! Not coming home tonight? Where do you plan to spend the night? Let me tell you, when nothing is official yet, don’t… don’t let that girl trick you into bed!”
Cheng Huanzhen: “?”
Cheng Zhaorui was anxious: “Look at the time, late-night snacks are almost finished! Going out at this hour? If she asked you out, that’s another matter, but if she didn’t, and you just ran over to find her, you might disturb her rest and lose big points in her heart!”
Cheng Huanzhen’s forward momentum suddenly halted.
He looked at his father in confusion. His father’s remarks over the past two days had been very strange, completely irrelevant.
But leaving aside the first half of his father’s strange remarks…
…Would finding someone at night without an appointment deduct impression points?
Cheng Huanzhen couldn’t help but recall the days when he was pursuing his Little Uncle. His Little Uncle would always come out around this time of night to make him go home.
Little Uncle… didn’t like being sought out by him at night?
If his Little Uncle deducted points from him, what would happen?
He didn’t know, he didn’t want to think about it, he didn’t want to try!
Cheng Huanzhen fell silent for about five seconds.
Cheng Huanzhen hesitated: “But… he has a fever.”
Cheng Zhaorui slapped his thigh, his eyes widening: “Having a fever in the middle of the night, her parents and family must be by her side! What’s the point of you going now? Have you met her parents yet before going!”
Cheng Zhaorui pulled his son to his side and whispered, “At a time like this, you can’t just rashly run over to find her! Dad will teach you. Prepare well tonight, and tomorrow morning, take the driver, the doctor, bring gifts and things suitable for recovery after a fever, and go find her together!”
Cheng Zhaorui tried hard to teach: “A good general never fights a battle unprepared. Your relationship isn’t stable yet, so you have to take every step carefully. One wrong move in the middle could mean you won’t make it to the end.”
Cheng Zhaorui advised his son earnestly: “Listen to Dad. Dad’s experience is definitely richer than yours. These are all truths I summed up with blood and tears back in the day!”
Cheng Huanzhen was persuaded.
He lowered his eyes in disappointment and said, “You make sense, Dad.”
He reluctantly sat back in his chair, postponing the time to find his Little Uncle until the next morning.
As soon as dawn broke the next day, Cheng Huanzhen couldn’t wait to grab the family doctor and driver and rush towards the vicinity of B University.
He arrived at the villa entrance very early.
But Wen Siheng hadn’t woken up, and Wen Shaozhuo had to stay in the bedroom to take care of his brother, so he had to find an excuse to wait.
This wait lasted from early morning until noon.
When he knocked on the villa door again, the door opened, and Wen Shaozhuo appeared in front of him once more. His complexion looked much more spirited than in the morning.
Wen Shaozhuo’s voice was weak as he greeted him nervously: “Hello, Brother Huanzhen. Brother A’Heng has woken up. Do you want to come in now?”
After receiving an affirmative answer, Wen Shaozhuo led Cheng Huanzhen into the house. Following behind Cheng Huanzhen was a doctor. Wen Shaozhuo couldn’t stop his gaze from sneaking glances at the doctor.
He was a little puzzled, not knowing how Cheng Huanzhen knew about his brother’s illness, nor why Cheng Huanzhen was so attentive that he even brought the family doctor along.
Cheng Huanzhen seemed to see his confusion.
Cheng Huanzhen explained to him without changing his expression: “I had some business with the doctor in this area today. Heard Siheng had a fever, so we dropped by.”
The doctor chimed in: “Yes, yes, yes, that’s right, that’s right.”
Wen Shaozhuo: “Oh…”
Wen Shaozhuo thought blankly, were people outside so kind-hearted?
But he didn’t dare to speak much to outsiders, so his bellyful of doubts remained stifled inside forever.
He bashfully thanked Brother Huanzhen and led him into Brother A’Heng’s bedroom with inexplicable worry: “Brother, Brother Huanzhen is here to see you.”
In the short time he took to go out and open the door, Wen Siheng had shrunk back under the covers. The quilt looked round and bulging from the outside; one glance and you knew the person inside had curled their legs up to their chest.
When Wen Shaozhuo pushed the door open, Wen Siheng’s eyelids were struggling to open and close.
Startled by the sound, Wen Siheng seemed frightened. His eyes suddenly widened, his gaze wandering blankly around the room for two seconds before finally focusing on the visitor.
He blinked slowly and asked in surprise: “Brother Huanzhen, why are you here?”
From the moment Cheng Huanzhen entered the bedroom, his gaze was firmly fixed on the curled-up figure on the bed.
One look at his Little Uncle and you could tell he was still feverish.
His cheeks were like the sunset clouds burned red in the evening, dyeing his Little Uncle’s whole person into a hot, red appearance.
In the year when his Little Uncle was still just his Little Uncle, his health wasn’t very good either. When his eyes couldn’t see, he would get sick every few days, and fever was naturally on the list.
Seeing his Little Uncle like this, Cheng Huanzhen instinctively wanted to reach out a hand to him, help him sit up, let him lean on his shoulder, and then coax him to open his mouth and take medicine.
The last time he did these things was over a year ago. But recalling it now, his body seemed to still retain the massive behavioral inertia from back then. Just seeing and thinking about it, his body immediately wanted to move on its own.
However, before he could make a move, he saw Wen Shaozhuo had already sat by his Little Uncle’s bed. He sat down at the head of the bed, his face full of worry, his palm intimately touching his Little Uncle’s forehead.
Wen Shaozhuo was also whispering something to his Little Uncle, calling him “brother this, brother that.” Listening to it, Cheng Huanzhen’s mood became… not very happy.
Wen Shaozhuo didn’t take care of his Little Uncle as well as he did. Bad.
Wen Shaozhuo hadn’t even called a doctor for his Little Uncle yet. Bad.
Wen Shaozhuo even needed his Little Uncle to work personally to earn money to support him. Even worse.
Within three seconds of entering the door, Cheng Huanzhen’s face remained unchanged, his lips drawn into a straight, expressionless line, while in his heart, he scored a 3:0 K.O.
He nodded politely to Wen Siheng, led the doctor to the bedside, and also sat down on the edge of the bed.
He said seriously to Wen Siheng: “Hello, Siheng. How do you feel now? I happened to be in the neighborhood for work today, so I dropped by to bring you some medicine and supplements.”
As soon as he finished speaking, a smile rippled in his Little Uncle’s eyes.
That gaze seemed to penetrate his words and see his heart, and the smile in it seemed to be laughing at how fake his excuse was.
When Wen Shaozhuo’s gaze moved back to his Little Uncle, the smile in his Little Uncle’s eyes became pure again.
Wen Siheng was surprised: “Heavens, Brother Huanzhen, how can I accept this?”
Worried that his brother would refuse treatment out of embarrassment, Wen Shaozhuo immediately leaned close to Brother A’Heng’s ear again and whispered: “Brother, family doctors are usually very capable. Just let this doctor brother take a look!”
Cheng Huanzhen was in a bad mood again.
When he asked, his Little Uncle didn’t agree. But as soon as Wen Shaozhuo opened his mouth, his Little Uncle nodded.
…But this doctor was clearly brought by him from home!
When it came to being family to his Little Uncle, he was the first one here!
He sat expressionlessly by the bed, his back straight, just as straight as his lips.
His Little Uncle’s new younger brother was saying words of thanks to him in a soft voice. Cheng Huanzhen, with a cold face, didn’t want to hear a single word, nor respond to a single word.
But if he didn’t respond, his Little Uncle, who was earnestly answering the doctor’s questions on the side, would nonchalantly lift his eyelids and glance at him.
That glance was light and faint. It didn’t glare at him, nor was it fierce. But Cheng Huanzhen knew that was a threat.
Cheng Huanzhen remained expressionless in a stalemate for half a minute, finally letting out a sound in an extremely reluctant, calm tone: “Oh, no need to thank me. It’s not easy for you two to be away from home and drifting on your own. Your financial strength is limited, so I should take care of you more.”
Perhaps finally seeing his unhappiness, his Little Uncle withdrew his gaze and said to Wen Shaozhuo: “A’Shao, look, Brother Huanzhen rarely comes to our house as a guest. You go out and buy some food later.”
His Little Uncle blinked, pretending to have his back to him, and whispered to Wen Shaozhuo in a breathy voice: “Don’t be afraid, A’Shao. If you don’t want to talk to the merchants, then just order takeout and have them deliver it.”
Cheng Huanzhen’s hearing had always been good, and he heard these whispers word for word.
He thought that won’t do, turned his head to look at the doctor who had just finished prescribing medicine, and said: “You go with Shaozhuo. Buy plenty of delicious food back. Don’t let them pay. They just moved out of their home, starting out isn’t easy.”
Wen Shaozhuo’s “then takeout” was stuck in his throat just like that.
He looked at his brother in a panic, his hands uncontrollably gripping his brother’s arm tightly.
But since the words were already spoken, his brother could only coax him and encourage him: “Look, A’Shao, the doctor brother is very gentle. Just follow him. Go pick some things you like to eat there.”
Brother A’Heng winked at him secretly and mouthed: Don’t be afraid, A’Shao.
Brother A’Heng said: “If you encounter anything, you can call me anytime.”
Wen Shaozhuo was still nervous, still afraid. He hadn’t been alone with a stranger for a very, very long time. But Brother A’Heng’s gaze was so encouraging. He couldn’t help but recall his grand wish to learn to become like Brother A’Heng.
Wen Shaozhuo finally tried hard to muster up his courage and agreed softly: “Okay, brother. Then… brother wait for me to come back.”
The door opened, the door closed. Finally, only two people were left in the room.
Cheng Huanzhen had almost endured to his limit.
As soon as the two figures left his line of sight, Cheng Huanzhen’s body tensed up tightly, ready to spring. When the footsteps of the two completely disappeared, he couldn’t hold back even a little bit anymore. He leaned forward, almost pouncing on his Little Uncle.
His Little Uncle leaned lazily against the headboard, spread his five fingers, and pressed against his chest, stopping him from going any further.
His Little Uncle raised his eyebrows and asked: “What are you doing?”
Cheng Huanzhen’s brows and eyes were faint, his voice a little aggrieved. He said: “Little Uncle, look, he doesn’t take good care of you. He’s not as good as me.”
