PRYM CH41: Chinese New Year
Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, thick, layered dark clouds drifted overhead just then, and the bright moonlight began to spill out from behind them.
Fang Ji, who had been waiting for this moment for a long time, had his attention completely stolen and didn’t notice the moon’s appearance at all.
He stared blankly at the hand-knitted hat on his head and subconsciously shook his head. The special jingle of the bell sounded softly above him.
The bell on the hat wasn’t very loud, gentle and mild. Compared to the bells on his earrings, it seemed particularly inconspicuous, requiring one to focus their attention to listen and notice it, just to barely pick it out from the jangling sounds all over his body.
However—
Fang Ji asked in disbelief, “Making a gift? Th-this hat, did you knit it yourself?”
Fang Chengyu pursed his lips in embarrassment. “Yes. My technique isn’t very good, and some parts weren’t knitted well, but it was too late to fix it when I noticed.”
Fang Chengyu asked nervously, “Does Xiao Ji not like it? If you don’t, I… I’ll practice more next time and knit you a new one.”
Fang Ji blankly took off the hat and held it in his hands.
The rainbow colors were tacky, the details looked ugly, and the bell was even sewn on crookedly.
But as Fang Ji held it in his hands, he could seemingly still feel the warmth left behind from the knitter’s hard work.
Fang Ji clutched the rainbow knitted hat tightly and said, seemingly calm, “It really isn’t good-looking, but… but you put in the effort, so this one will do.”
Hearing his affirmation, Fang Chengyu’s expression immediately relaxed.
With a look of joy, Fang Chengyu’s eyes curved into a smile as he extended a hand towards him and asked, “How does Xiao Ji like to spend New Year’s Eve? Do you have any plans tonight? If there’s nothing else, do you want to watch the Spring Festival Gala with me?”
Fang Ji felt he should refuse.
The vow he had made a few days ago was still fresh in his mind. He distinctly remembered saying that as long as Fang Chengyu didn’t confess and apologize, he would not acknowledge him as his brother for a single day!
But when he looked up and saw Fang Chengyu’s hopeful and expectant gaze, the words stuck in his throat.
…What’s wrong, Fang Ji?
Don’t be bewitched by Fang Chengyu’s smile and gift!
Fang Chengyu had no intention of spending New Year’s Eve with you this morning, you mustn’t be deceived by him!
But the other half of his brain urged him on. He gently shook the knitted hat in his hand, and the small, gentle bell tried its best to jingle, making his mood brighten along with it.
This morning… did Fang Chengyu go out to prepare this hand-knitted gift for him?
It just took a bit longer to make the gift, which is why he came back so late, right?
Fang Chengyu… Fang Chengyu…
Faced with Fang Chengyu’s outstretched palm, Fang Ji’s hand hesitated, then disgracefully placed a single knuckle on it.
Just for this one day…
Just for tonight…
He was not mesmerized by Fang Chengyu!
He just… he just didn’t want to spend New Year’s Eve alone!
Fang Ji hypnotized himself like this, but before he knew it, he was pulled by Fang Chengyu into the third-rate media room.
He unknowingly watched the Spring Festival Gala with Fang Chengyu for the entire night.
Unknowingly, when the New Year’s bell rang, he listened to Fang Chengyu softly and longingly state his New Year’s wish, and with a soft heart, he stiffly and quietly called out, “Brother.”
Then, he was unknowingly sent back to his room by Fang Chengyu, unknowingly given a goodnight hug by Fang Chengyu, unknowingly tucked into bed and had his eyes covered to sleep by Fang Chengyu, and unknowingly accepted the “sweet dreams for the new year” left by Fang Chengyu before he left the room.
Fang Ji unknowingly spent the entire New Year’s Eve in this gentle, dream-like atmosphere and fell into a deep sleep.
It wasn’t until he woke up the next morning that Fang Ji belatedly realized what he had done last night.
He… was he bewitched by Fang Chengyu last night?
Were his vow and his determination all for naught?
Was he just going to let go of the matter of his hand-picked brothers and sisters, cultivated with so much time and money, being poached by Fang Chengyu in one fell swoop?
Fang Dingdang, oh Fang Dingdang, quickly remember the anger from a few days ago!
Just as Fang Ji was slowly and dazedly contemplating all this, there was a sudden soft knock at the door.
Fang Ji let out a wail and shouted, “I’m sleeping in!”
However, with a “creak—,” the door opened a crack.
Fang Ji turned his head in a daze.
Slightly curly, smooth long hair fell through the crack in the door, and Fang Chengyu’s gentle, water-like eyes then appeared in his field of vision.
Fang Chengyu’s eyes curved. “Happy New Year, Xiao Ji. You can’t sleep in today. We have to go out in a bit.”
Fang Ji was wooden.
Only then did Fang Ji remember just how much was included in the concept of “spending the entire New Year’s Eve with Fang Chengyu.”
Fang Ji: “You… I… are we really going this early? Are you really going with me?”
Fang Chengyu smiled lightly. “Since Xiao Ji invited me, of course I have to go with Xiao Ji. As for the time, Xiao Ji set it himself last night.”
Fang Ji slowly said, “Oh…”
Fang Dingdang, oh Fang Dingdang, are you just going to let it go like this? Are you just going to believe that he is truly as innocent and gentle as he appears?
Fang Ji: “…”
Fang Ji’s mind went blank for a long time. He turned his head and saw Fang Chengyu still at the door.
Fang Ji couldn’t help but kick the quilt. “I’m lying down for another ten minutes!”
Fang Chengyu gently bargained, “Five minutes.”
Fang Ji pouted, very dissatisfied.
Fang Chengyu’s eyes curved into a smile. “I’ll come call you in five minutes.”
After Fang Chengyu finished speaking, he closed the door and left.
Fang Ji once again belatedly reacted: Wait, what just happened? How did he get led along by Fang Chengyu again?
Five minutes later, Fang Chengyu knocked on the door, and Fang Ji reluctantly climbed out of bed.
Put on the bells.
Washed up.
Was dragged by Fang Chengyu to eat breakfast together.
Packed his things, was led out the door by Fang Chengyu.
Came home at night, Fang Chengyu personally helped him take off the bells and sent him to sleep.
The second day of the Lunar New Year.
Fang Ji opened his eyes calmly.
Fang Ji, oh Fang Ji, didn’t you say you would only hang out with Fang Chengyu for one day and one night?
New Year’s Eve and the first day of the New Year have passed. It’s time for you to break free from this gentle trap and calmly and rationally think about the grievances you suffered and the vows you made before the New Year!
Fang Chengyu knocked on the door.
Fang Chengyu poked his head in.
Fang Chengyu gently called him to get up. “Xiao Ji, aren’t you going to visit your two friends’ houses this morning? There’s also a fashion exhibition in the afternoon. If you don’t get up now, the schedule will be too tight.”
Fang Ji: “Ten minutes…”
Fang Chengyu: “Five minutes.”
Fang Ji pouted unhappily.
Fang Ji climbed out of bed, put on his bells, and washed up.
Ate with Fang Chengyu.
Went out with Fang Chengyu.
Came home with Fang Chengyu.
Let Fang Chengyu help him take off his bells.
Was happily coaxed to sleep by Fang Chengyu.
The third day of the Lunar New Year, he opened his eyes calmly.
Fang Ji, oh Fang Ji…
Your vow! Your backbone! Your perseverance!
Fang Chengyu knocked on the door.
Fang Ji: “Ten minutes!”
Fang Chengyu: “Five minutes.”
Fang Ji kicked the quilt, super unhappy.
Got up, put on his bells, washed up.
Ate, went out, and came home with Fang Chengyu.
Let Fang Chengyu help him take off his bells.
Was happily coaxed to sleep by Fang Chengyu.
The fourth day of the Lunar New Year…
The fifth day of the Lunar New Year…
Fang Ji opened his eyes calmly.
Thought calmly.
Brother Chengyu really seems to be a person whose inside matches his outside.
Is it possible that Brother Chengyu really didn’t deliberately target his paid-for brothers and sisters?
The sixth day of the Lunar New Year…
The seventh day of the Lunar New Year…
Fang Ji opened his eyes calmly.
Thought calmly.
Indeed, how could someone as gentle and kind as his brother deliberately target his paid-for brothers and sisters, deliberately stealing them away to bully him?
It must be that the paid-for brothers and sisters saw his brother’s lecture notice themselves, were bewitched themselves, and chose to attend the lecture themselves!
Their choice definitely had nothing to do with his brother.
His brother just has that charm. The fact that they could see his brother’s notice and choose to attend the lecture on their own initiative means they have good taste!
Phew—
Fang Ji let out a long sigh of relief.
The problem that had been quietly stuck in his heart every morning when he woke up these past few days was finally completely resolved by him!
He finally, belatedly, began to get excited about having a new biological brother.
Wow! It’s a brother!
A real brother!
And a brother who doesn’t need to work, has time to spend with him, likes him, and is gentle!
Fang Ji excitedly leaped out of bed. Without even taking the time to put on his bells, he rushed downstairs to knock on Fang Chengyu’s door.
A sleepy and drowsy voice came from inside Fang Chengyu’s room: “What is it?”
Fang Ji asked excitedly, “Brother, it’s me. Can I come in?”
“Ah, it’s Xiao Ji.”
The voice inside became a little more awake, followed by a rustling sound.
Soon, Fang Chengyu said, “Okay, come in.”
Fang Ji happily entered the room and immediately pounced onto the bed.
His eyes were sparkling as he held Fang Chengyu’s hand and asked in a cheerful tone, “Brother! Is there anything you like? Do you have a favorite car? A favorite bag? Favorite clothes? Favorite gemstones? Xiao Ji will buy you gifts!”
Fang Chengyu had already sat up in bed, his eyes sleepy. His untended long hair was casually spread over his back.
He smiled and patted Fang Ji’s head. “I have pocket money too. If I want those things, I’ll buy them myself. No need to spend Xiao Ji’s money.”
That was true. His money had originally come from their parents and siblings. Now that his brother was home, his parents and siblings would surely give his brother the same amount of living expenses. His brother could completely buy anything he wanted himself.
But-but he had spent so much money on the brothers and sisters outside. Now that it was his own real brother, how could his real brother lose out to them?
Fang Ji was very troubled by this problem, which he had been studying for many days.
Of course, the troubling problem didn’t affect his fun with his new real brother.
When Fang Ji got excited, his energy was boundless.
There were twenty-four hours in a day, and for sixteen of them, he wanted to stick to his new brother!
But this intensity was a bit tiring for Fang Chengyu.
So much so that after watching for two days, the butler couldn’t stand it anymore. He quietly found Fang Chengyu one night and said, “Eldest Young Master, you can’t spoil the Youngest Master like this. The more you spoil him, the clingier he will become. Back when the Second Young Master and the Eldest Young Miss were still living at home, the Youngest Master would often cling to them for the entire weekend.”
