PRYM CH49: Drunken Words
It was rare for it to rain so heavily in the Imperial Capital.
The torrential downpour was like a basin of water being dumped straight down from the sky. The figure who had fallen by the roadside was soaked in an instant, wet from head to toe like a homeless, drenched puppy.
Lin Chen frowned, quickly walked to his side and squatted down. Holding the umbrella with one hand, he grabbed the arm of the figure on the ground with the other and pulled forcefully upwards.
Lin Chen: “Get up!”
Qi Xiuyi was pulled over by him, rolling onto his back on the ground, and his eyes opened dazedly.
In the hazy and blurry rainy night, the figure before him was unclear. Only those eyes were bright, and a somewhat familiar voice kept calling in his ear: “Qi Xiuyi… Qi Xiuyi? Get up! There are no antiques on the ground, and certainly no Qi Wendong. Don’t cling to it!”
Qi Xiuyi blinked slowly, his retinas vaguely reflecting the shadow he had been yearning for over the past six months.
“Qi Wendong…”
He murmured in a low voice, his eyes suddenly widening. He grabbed the figure’s wrist and scrambled up from the ground.
“Qi Wendong… Qi Wendong… have you finally come back to see me, Qi Wendong!”
Qi Xiuyi’s movements were hurried and frantic as he threw his arms around Lin Chen’s arm.
His movement as he stood up was so large that it splashed the rainwater from the ground all over Lin Chen.
Lin Chen’s right arm, both shoes, and half his clothes were all soaked by Qi Xiuyi’s actions.
The drunk little fox’s eyes were hazy, and it was unclear who he was seeing through the curtain of rain.
He joyfully and anxiously tried to climb onto Lin Chen, the smell of alcohol and rain rushing towards Lin Chen.
“Qi Wendong, I knew you would come back for me! Look, my final report card, and the museum I built for you… look!”
Lin Chen immediately clamped the umbrella between his ear and neck, freeing his left hand to firmly press against Qi Xiuyi’s collarbone, preventing the drunken youth from actually climbing onto him.
Lin Chen: “Qi Xiuyi! You… forget it. Come on, come with me.”
Lin Chen’s right arm was held tightly by Qi Xiuyi and he couldn’t pull it out, so he simply used it to drag Qi Xiuyi towards the shelter of an awning.
Qi Xiuyi’s cheeks were flushed from the alcohol, and he kept repeating deliriously: “Qi Wendong… Qi Wendong! Don’t go, I’m telling you… I have so, so many things I want to tell you…”
Lin Chen dragged Qi Xiuyi to the entrance of a coffee shop, pushed him down onto a chair by the door, then pulled back his left hand, placed the umbrella on the ground, and freed his hand to get his phone.
But this action seemed to have been misinterpreted by the drunken youth.
Qi Xiuyi frantically reached for the hand Lin Chen had pulled away, shouting anxiously: “Don’t go, don’t leave! Qi Wendong!”
Lin Chen quickly pulled his hand back and dodged, then moved behind Qi Xiuyi, patting his head soothingly.
He lowered his voice, using Fang Chengyu’s tone to coax him: “I’m not Qi Wendong, but you can tell me. Be good, don’t move, I’ll send you home in a bit.”
Qi Xiuyi’s emotions were somewhat soothed, but he continued to murmur “Qi Wendong’s” name.
Behind Qi Xiuyi’s back, Lin Chen unlocked his phone. After opening his contacts, he hesitated for a moment between Qi Jingming and the Qi family’s butler.
Judging that he had no way of knowing the butler’s number during his work at the Fang family, he called Qi Jingming.
He soothed Qi Xiuyi a couple more times, pressed his shoulder down with his elbow, then brought the phone to his ear.
Fang Chengyu: “Hello, Uncle Qi, this is Chengyu. Xiuyi is drunk and is now at the entrance of XX Coffee Shop on XX Avenue. Could I trouble you to send a car to pick him up? … Yes, his clothes are all soaked… Okay, please be quick, otherwise Xiuyi will catch a cold.”
After hanging up, he called Fang Ji.
Fang Chengyu: “Xiao Ji, are your nails done? Have the driver take you home first in a bit…”
He hadn’t even started explaining.
Qi Xiuyi, who had just been calmed down, suddenly started crying loudly again: “Qi Wendong, why are you ignoring me? Qi Wendong, say something, talk to me, Qi Wendong…”
A series of tinkling sounds came from the phone, and Fang Ji’s voice pierced through loudly: “Qi Xiuyi? Brother, where are you, why is Qi Xiuyi with you?! What’s with all this nonsense he’s spouting? He didn’t do anything to you, did he? Brother!”
Lin Chen tried his best to press Qi Xiuyi’s head onto his arm, using his arm to muffle his mouth, before putting the phone back to his ear.
Fang Chengyu said gently: “I just found Xiuyi by the roadside. He’s drunk, and it’s dangerous for him to be wandering the streets alone. I plan to take him back to the Qi family first. Xiao Ji, you go back with the driver first.”
Fang Ji’s dissatisfaction was practically overflowing from the phone: “No! Brother, where are you? I’ll come find you, I’ll go with you to take Xiuyi back!”
Fang Chengyu was unwavering, speaking calmly and gently: “Be good, Xiao Ji, go home first. Xiao Lian came home today and is waiting for you at home right now.”
Fang Ji was stunned: “What?”
Fang Chengyu repeated his words: “Xiao Lian came home to see you today. He’s been waiting at home since this morning, waiting for you until now.”
“He prepared a big gift for you, intending it to be a surprise, which is why he didn’t tell you in advance. So, go back first, Xiao Ji. It’s almost ten o’clock now, don’t make Xiao Lian wait too long.”
Fang Ji wasn’t the least bit curious or expectant about the gift his brother mentioned. The number of gifts he had received since childhood was as large as his living expenses.
But his second brother came back to the country today and waited for him at home from morning until now??
Fang Ji: “…”
Fang Ji couldn’t refuse.
Fang Ji was silent for a long moment before yielding and asking: “Brother, where are you? I’ll just come see you for a moment. As long as you’re okay, I’ll go home.”
Lin Chen glanced down at the person stuck to his arm.
…Let Fang Ji come?
If he came, he’d be even more reluctant to go home first!
So Fang Chengyu gently coaxed: “Be good, Xiao Ji, go back early, don’t make Xiao Lian wait too long. As soon as I take Xiuyi home, I’ll come back to find you, okay? …Ah, I have to go, the Qi family’s car is here to pick him up. I’m hanging up now, Xiao Ji, see you later.”
Fang Ji’s eyes widened: “Hello? Brother? Brother!…”
Lin Chen hung up the phone.
The Qi family’s car hadn’t arrived yet, but Qi Xiuyi, pressed against his arm, had started to sob.
Tears and rainwater mixed together on his already soaked arm, a warm current amidst the cold rain.
Qi Xiuyi sobbed while murmuring: “Qi Wendong… why are you ignoring me? Why won’t you see me? Qi Wendong, you knew all along your illness couldn’t be cured, didn’t you? But why didn’t you tell me, why didn’t you let me stay with you? Why, Qi Wendong…”
In his drunken state, Qi Xiuyi didn’t know what was what. He fumbled around, grabbing onto Lin Chen’s clothes and refusing to let go.
Lin Chen sighed, reached out, and pressed down on his wrist to stop Qi Xiuyi from pulling randomly.
He quickly scanned his surroundings, then bent down and whispered in Qi Xiuyi’s ear: “I’m not ignoring you, I’m not avoiding you. Qi Wendong will always be watching over you. So, don’t drink like this next time. Qi Wendong doesn’t like it, understand?”
Qi Xiuyi stopped crying mid-sob, stunned, and slowly raised his head.
He asked slowly and dazedly: “Qi Wendong… doesn’t Qi Wendong like me?”
Lin Chen corrected: “He doesn’t like the way you look when you’re drunk.”
Qi Xiuyi burst into tears: “Did Qi Wendong leave because I was drinking? Then I won’t drink anymore, you make Qi Wendong come back, come back!”
Lin Chen: “…”
Lin Chen felt a headache coming on.
Fortunately, the Qi family’s car finally arrived. He raised his hand to signal them, and soon, the Qi family’s Latimaserati pulled over to the side of the road.
The Qi family’s butler got out of the car, holding a massive umbrella, and trotted over to the coffee shop.
The Qi family butler called out guiltily: “Young Master Chengyu! Oh my, I’m so terribly sorry to have caused you so much trouble.”
He placed the umbrella to the side and tried to untangle Qi Xiuyi, who was wrapped around the other family’s young master’s waist. He pulled and shouted with effort: “Young Master Xiuyi, let go, look clearly, stop grabbing Young Master Chengyu!”
Qi Xiuyi turned a deaf ear, wailing and clinging to Fang Chengyu, refusing to let go.
Fang Chengyu: “…”
Fang Chengyu smiled: “It’s alright. Just don’t let him drink like this next time, it’s not good for his health. And especially don’t let him wander the streets alone after drinking. It’s a good thing I ran into him today, otherwise if he fell on the road alone, who knows when a car might have come.”
The Qi family butler really couldn’t pull his young master off and panted with his hands on his knees: “Phew, Young Master Chengyu, you’re right! You… you’re all wet too, why don’t you come back with us, I’ll get you a set of clean clothes to change into first?”
Fang Chengyu did not refuse.
He dragged Qi Xiuyi, who was still attached to his waist, into the car with him and headed to the Qi residence.
Qi Jingming had come home very early today.
When he heard that his son was drunk outside, hugging another family’s brother and crying for his own, he leisurely pushed his work aside for the time being. Estimating that the butler was about to bring him back, he slowly descended the stairs and sat in the living room to brew tea.
Not long after, the car stopped at the entrance.
Before the door even opened, Qi Jingming could hear his son’s heaven-and-earth-shaking cries: “No! Qi Wendong, I won’t let you go! Qi Wendong!”
And his butler’s exasperated and helpless voice: “Young Master! This is Young Master Chengyu, not Young Master Wendong, please let go of his waist, sigh…”
The main door opened.
Qi Jingming watched as Lin Chen struggled to enter the house, dragging Qi Xiuyi with him. The butler was in the middle, trying his best to pull his own young master off, but was completely unsuccessful.
Qi Jingming looked once, then looked again, and couldn’t bear it anymore. He beckoned for a strong, burly bodyguard in black to come over.
The bodyguard hoisted Qi Xiuyi up from the ground with one arm, and with a grip and a pull, easily detached Qi Xiuyi from Lin Chen.
Qi Jingming greeted Lin Chen: “Xiao Fang, long time no see. Come, have a seat, drink some tea.”
The butler panted heavily: “Mr. Qi, Young Master Chengyu’s clothes are all wet. I’ll go find him a set of clothes to change into first!”
Qi Jingming: “Oh, good. Come for tea after you’ve changed.”
Soon, Lin Chen had changed from head to toe into new clothes and new shoes that had been bought but never worn, and his hair had also been dried.
He sat down opposite Qi Jingming and drank his tea.
Qi Jingming waved his hand, clearing the first-floor living room of everyone else.
Lin Chen: “Uncle, your son Xiuyi’s mental state is not looking too good.”
Qi Jingming: “You call me dad when you need money, and uncle when you don’t?”
Lin Chen: “This problem isn’t big, but it isn’t small either. But if you let it be, a small problem can be dragged out into a big one.”
Qi Jingming: “And your great insight is?”
Lin Chen: “Free after-sales service is slow. P…aid… after-sales service is fast.”
Qi Jingming gave a thumbs-up: “Worthy of being a good son for thirty-seven years. So skilled at charging money at every opportunity.”
Qi Jingming: “Tell me your plan for charging money.”
Lin Chen: “Wendong’s suicide note, ten thousand yuan per word. Extremely effective. One letter, and I guarantee a cure for the ailment ^ ^”
Suicide not??? 😭 ⁉️ I’m scared now!!!
