Suddenly, the alarm blared, making Rong Shiโ€™s eyes narrow.
They had almost finished backing up before being discovered? Something was wrong.

    [Fiveโ€”Fourโ€”]

01: โ€œThe data center system is locking down!โ€
    00: โ€œAll servers are shutting downโ€”โ€

โ€œNot good!โ€ Song Yu scanned the surroundings. The indicator lights on the servers suddenly began flashing erratically. โ€œI have a bad feeling about this!โ€

    [Threeโ€”]

    00: โ€œBackup completion 99.3%โ€ฆ 99.5%โ€ฆโ€

    [Twoโ€”]

    00: โ€œ99.7%โ€ฆ 99.8%โ€ฆโ€
01: โ€œIโ€™ll fight it to the death! Aaahhh!โ€

Rong Shi was on high alert, pulling Song Yu back with him.
    โ€œ01, activate defense protocolโ€”โ€

    [One!]

    Boom!

Rows of servers exploded one after another. From the oval-shaped ceiling, countless gun barrels emerged, opening fire indiscriminately below.

Metal fragments flew everywhere; thick smoke engulfed the hall.
The vast space instantly turned into ruins.

A beam from a laser cannon grazed Rong Shiโ€™s shoulder. He pounced, shielding Song Yu beneath him.

โ€œRong Shi!โ€ Song Yuโ€™s heart nearly stopped. He clutched the back of Rong Shiโ€™s head, using all his strength to protect him.

The bombing subsided. The surroundings fell eerily silentโ€”only the scattering clatter of debris remained.

When Song Yu looked up, they found themselves enclosed once again in that all-too-familiar metallic space.

01: โ€œFinished right in the last 0.00001 seconds! Lord 01 is awesome! Hands on hips!โ€
00: โ€œLord 00 is awesome too. Now give me an energy stone. Hands on hips.โ€
    Song Yu: โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€

Rong Shi pushed himself up and checked Song Yu for injuries. Then he asked 01: โ€œDid you authorize that identity to another location?โ€
01: โ€œNo! They havenโ€™t even located the system breach yet. How could they authorize it elsewhere?โ€
Rong Shiโ€™s face darkened: โ€œHijacking time isnโ€™t over. Other than unauthorized credentials, I canโ€™t think of any cause for exposure.โ€

With 01โ€™s skillset, if there wasnโ€™t a problem during the infiltration, there shouldnโ€™t be one afterward either.

01 hesitated, guilty: โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆ Probably not an authorization issue.โ€
00: โ€œTracked it. That handsome head forcibly reset the authorization twenty seconds ago.โ€
Rong Shi: โ€œNo wonder.โ€ His face chilled. He shared vision with 01, checking the outside.
The same person couldnโ€™t exist in two places at onceโ€”thatโ€™s how they had been exposed.

01, bristling with shame and anger: โ€œKnew the pretty boy couldnโ€™t be trusted! Hmph!โ€
Rong Shi: โ€œItโ€™s you that canโ€™t be trusted.โ€
    01: โ€œQuQ my badโ€ฆโ€

Song Yu sat up, borrowed 00โ€™s field of vision to survey the surroundings.
โ€œThe data is in hand. Letโ€™s break out by force.โ€

Rong Shi pulled up all of 01โ€™s monitoring screens, examining the baseโ€™s activity.
    โ€œItโ€™s possible, but troublesome.โ€

With 01 and 00, breaking out wasnโ€™t the issue. The issue came afterโ€”theyโ€™d be hunted down. The data center had exploded. Their enemies would never let it go. Escalation risked implicating the Second Legion as well.

Recalling the fate of the First Legion in his past life, Rong Shi wasnโ€™t keen to escalate recklessly. Until he had a firmer grasp of this organization, a head-on conflict would be unwise.

    โ€œRetrace our path,โ€ he ordered.

01 and 00 shifted into stealth armor mode, shielding their masters as they fled.

Outside, a waterproof shield contained the sea. Ordinary explosions could not breach it. To escape, theyโ€™d need to traverse the experimental sector and return to the cavern pathways.

They sprinted upward, through radiation fields.

01: โ€œHijacking time is up. My brother and I released the authorization.โ€
    Rong Shi: โ€œGood.โ€

Maintaining access would grant convenience, but it would also leave traces of 01 and 00 inside the enemyโ€™s systemโ€”a dangerous liability.

As the hijacked access dissolved, alarms blared once again.

A patrol squad of AI guards doubled back, weapons drawn. Their laser cannons swung toward the fugitives.

Song Yuโ€™s voice, brimming with excitement: โ€œWanna play grid-bomb again?โ€
Rong Shi: โ€œAlready tired of it?โ€
Song Yu chuckled: โ€œHow could I get tired of such a stress-reliever? Letโ€™s competeโ€”who destroys more this time?โ€
    A faint smile tugged at Rong Shiโ€™s lips. โ€œDeal. Whatโ€™s the wager?โ€

With a twist of his wrist, a long military blade appeared in Song Yuโ€™s hand. He slid past a cannon muzzle and slashed.
The edge struck the AIโ€™s core circuitโ€”fried instantly.

He flicked his wrist, spinning the blade effortlessly. โ€œLoser bakes cookies for a month.โ€
Rong Shi: โ€œNo reward for winning, punishment for losing? Change it.โ€
Song Yu: โ€œFine, purple sweet potato dumplings with oozy filling?โ€
Rong Shi shot through another AIโ€™s core. โ€œโ€ฆโ€ฆ Just cookies. Less trouble.โ€

    [โ€ฆ]

Meanwhile, in the control room, the command staff freaked out as the system collapsed, backups failed, alarms blared, and Poseidonโ€”the AI systemโ€”announced calm, ominous messages: โ€œIntruders are presentโ€”look closely, they are right there.โ€

But the staff saw nothing. Panic spread.

Back in the labyrinth of moving rooms, Rong Shi and Song Yu battled wave after wave of AI defenders. Suddenly, a voice gave Rong Shi specific coordinates. It was oddly familiar. Trusting his instinct, he followed its guidance, leading them through perilous jumpsโ€”straight into a hidden entrance in the seabed rock.

Song Yu eyed him suspiciously: โ€œWhoโ€™s feeding you intel?โ€
Rong Shi: โ€œYouโ€™ll see soon enough.โ€

They slipped into the rocky passage. Seawater drained. Oxygen rushed in.

Ahead, a beta in a lab coat appearedโ€”someone Rong Shiโ€™s memory recognized by voice.
He led them through hidden corridors, tossed them disinfectant-smelling white coats for disguise, and answered Song Yuโ€™s questions only with a sly smile and a strange phrase:

โ€œDo you still remember how to fold a paper boat?โ€

Finally, after evasions and narrow escapes, the beta revealed himself on a hover ambulance. Peeling away a disguised maskโ€”he was the same โ€œmilitary doctorโ€ from the Second Legion.

Rong Shiโ€™s eyes narrowed. โ€œYour disguise is impressive.โ€
The beta shrugged, throwing it aside. โ€œPlanning to open a face-changing shop when I retire. Think I could make a living at it?โ€
Song Yu sneered: โ€œKeep yourself alive until then first.โ€

But Rong Shi pressed him harder, lowered his voice, and asked with sharp eyes:
    โ€œOr should I be sayingโ€ฆ Shen Sinian, my father-in-law?โ€

The betaโ€™s lips curved into a smile.

    Authorโ€™s Note:
01: Even great lords slip up occasionally. Totally normal.
    00: Same here.
Song Cat: Even my little brother calls himself โ€œlordโ€ nowโ€ฆ what do I do? [worried]
Rong Bunny: One 01 spoils a nest of AI. Dock his rations for a year.
    01: QuQ forgive meโ€ฆ

Oh! He’s here! Father-in-law is here! How will Song Yu seduce his husband now? What if father-in-law doesn’t like rabbits?

Honestly glad that we finally have him here. I’m so excited! Now we need to collect the other father-in-law!
