As he drove past the spot in the community where he saw Gu Yuanting that morning, he instinctively looked out the window. The place was empty.

Su Yiran breathed a sigh of relief, parked the car, got out carrying the cat cage, and looked down at the super cute kitten inside. His mood brightened immediately. Now he had a cat!

This was a beautiful little Ragdoll kitten, both cute and clingy, three months old. Because it looked a bit silly, Su Yiran named it “Daidai” (which means “Silly”).

However, Su Yiran’s good mood was soon interrupted again. Just after getting off the elevator, he saw Gu Yuanting standing there blankly outside the door.

Gu Yuanting grew nervous as soon as he noticed the elevator rising. When the elevator stopped on this floor, his heart nearly leapt to his throat.

The elevator door opened, and Su Yiran stepped out. Gu Yuanting was at a loss for what to do and hurriedly stepped forward: “Ranran…”

Su Yiran frowned: “What are you doing here?”

Gu Yuanting’s eyes were red and swollen. He wanted to hug Ranran but, seeing his current attitude, he didn’t dare. Finally, he just stood there, trembling as his lips quivered twice: “Ranran, I really lost my memory, I…”

Memory loss…

Su Yiran looked at Gu Yuanting’s red-rimmed eyes and pressed his lips together: “Come inside and talk.”

Gu Yuanting’s eyes lit up, overjoyed, nodding vigorously: “Okay.”

Su Yiran opened the door and went inside, first placing the cat cage on the floor. Carefully, he took Daidai out, who rubbed against him and softly meowed.

Su Yiran’s heart melted. He couldn’t help but hug Daidai and pet the kitten.

Gu Yuanting glanced at the cat and suppressed his jealousy: “Before… we divorced,” his voice thickened as he struggled to say the word, “a few days before the dessert shop opened, I had a fight with someone sent by the Gu family. Maybe I got hurt in the head. The next day I woke up with memory loss, and then…”

He told everything in detail.

Su Yiran slowly stroked the cat while listening. Hearing that Gu Yuanting suddenly regained his memory today felt absurd, but Gu Yuanting didn’t seem like he was faking it.

Maybe it was true…

After finishing, Gu Yuanting moved closer, looking at him imploringly: “Ranran, I—I didn’t mean it. Please forgive me, okay?”

Just then, Daidai suddenly jumped from Su Yiran’s arms and tilted its head, looking at him with big, round blue eyes full of curiosity.

Su Yiran couldn’t help but laugh. His attention was diverted. He looked at Gu Yuanting: “Let me think about it. I’ll let Daidai get familiar with its cat bed and litter box first.”

With that, Su Yiran crouched to pick up Daidai, but the kitten dodged and slipped under the coffee table.

Su Yiran sighed. Seeing Su Yiran trying to pick up the cat, Gu Yuanting reached out and fished it out: “Where’s the cat bed?”

“Don’t scare it,” Su Yiran said worriedly, seeing Gu Yuanting holding the kitten roughly.

Gu Yuanting glanced at the cat in his arms, silent for a moment, suppressing his jealousy: “It’s called Daidai?”

“Mm,” Su Yiran took Daidai from Gu Yuanting’s arms, stroking it until it closed its eyes comfortably.

Relieved, he took Daidai to familiarize it with the litter box and bed. Gu Yuanting followed along, and Su Yiran suddenly noticed something off.

While feeding Daidai cat treats, Su Yiran glanced at Daidai, then at Gu Yuanting. Suddenly, a thought flashed through his mind. His expression changed, and his heart grew cold.

Seeing Ranran’s change in expression, Gu Yuanting became flustered: “Ranran, what’s wrong?”

Su Yiran looked down at Daidai licking his hand and gently petted it, quietly saying, “So… even your cat allergy was a lie.”

A long time ago, when they were in high school, he once adopted a cute and clingy kitten named Mao Tuan. But because Gu Yuanting was allergic to cat hair, whenever he was in the same space with Mao Tuan, he had allergic symptoms. Feeling sorry for Gu Yuanting, Su Yiran gave Mao Tuan away.

But now, Gu Yuanting had been around Daidai for a long time, even held the kitten just now, without any allergic reaction.

Obviously, even the “cat allergy” from many years ago was a lie.

Hearing Ranran’s words, Gu Yuanting’s mind went blank. He hurriedly explained, “That was because… I was jealous of the cat. Sorry, Ranran, I…”

Jealous? Su Yiran was stunned for a moment, then understood a little.

But he still shook his head and looked at Gu Yuanting, cutting him off: “Now I don’t know which words of yours are true and which are lies.”

All the deceptions Gu Yuanting had told him, one after another, surfaced in his mind—from their youth until after they married…

Su Yiran took a deep breath and withdrew the cat treats from his hand. Standing up calmly, he said to Gu Yuanting: “You should leave.”

“Ranran…” Gu Yuanting’s mind was in chaos. Sensing the calmness in Ranran’s voice, a great panic surged in his heart. His voice trembled: “Ranran…”

Su Yiran was silent for a moment.

The room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

The little kitten Daidai, having lost its treats, looked innocently at its owner and meowed.

Su Yiran looked at Gu Yuanting and spoke again: “About the memory loss you mentioned… I don’t know if it’s true or not.”

“But even if it is true… I can’t continue being with someone like you.”

“So, please leave.”

Gu Yuanting’s vision darkened, and dizziness hit him in waves. He realized Ranran was serious. Ranran didn’t want him anymore. The whole world seemed to turn dim at once, filling him with despair and pain.

Ranran really didn’t want him anymore…

Tears quickly welled up in Gu Yuanting’s eyes. He nearly couldn’t stand, reaching out to grab Ranran: “Ranran…”

Seeing Gu Yuanting’s lost and broken state, Su Yiran’s fingertips trembled once more, then he decided to cut it short. He avoided Gu Yuanting’s hand and pointed toward the door: “Leave.”

Seeing Gu Yuanting not move, Su Yiran suddenly felt an inexplicable irritation, which unsettled him. He walked toward the door: “If you don’t leave, then I will.”

Gu Yuanting saw Ranran opening the door to leave, hurriedly wiped his tears, and staggered to block him: “Don’t, Ranran…” Ranran was pregnant with their baby. How could he let Ranran be sent away from home like this? Going out like this while angry, who knew what might happen…

Su Yiran held the doorknob, silent, calmly looking at him.

“…” Gu Yuanting’s lips trembled twice, heart aching, “I… I’ll go. Ranran, please don’t be angry…”

Su Yiran nodded and continued to look at him calmly. Gu Yuanting, desperate, staggered slowly outside.

Su Yiran watched his back, his fingers twitching as if wanting to do something, but in the end did nothing, watching Gu Yuanting leave before closing the door.

The whole day after that, Su Yiran didn’t go out. He made food for the cat at home, played with it using a cat toy, and cuddled Daidai while watching TV. The kitten was well-behaved and clingy, quickly growing close to him. Su Yiran became completely absorbed in petting the cat.

As night gradually fell, it started raining outside without anyone noticing. Daidai, tired from playing, lay sweetly asleep in the cat bed.

Before going to sleep, Su Yiran noticed the rain seemed to be getting heavier. He turned off the lights, the bedroom plunged into darkness, and he nestled under the covers, gradually drifting off.

The night deepened.

Su Yiran seemed to suddenly sense something and woke up. In the dark bedroom, he heard the heavy rain pouring outside, the sound of raindrops pattering restlessly disturbing his mind.

He turned over, wanting to continue sleeping, but after tossing and turning for a while, he just couldn’t fall asleep.

Su Yiran threw off the covers, sat up, slipped on his slippers, and walked over to the window. He pulled back a corner of the curtain and looked down.

The dim yellow glow of the streetlight flickered and swayed in the heavy rain. Below, a vague shadow could be seen.

Su Yiran’s hand trembled slightly. He let go of the curtain and returned to bed, burrowing back under the covers to try sleeping again.

After an unknown amount of time passed,

he suddenly threw off the covers again and sat up, turning on the light to dispel the darkness in the bedroom. He got out of bed, casually threw on a coat, grabbed a black umbrella, and went out.

Downstairs, the rain was pouring heavily. Su Yiran opened the umbrella and walked down the steps at the building’s entrance.

After a few steps, he saw Gu Yuanting standing alone on the small path around the corner, soaked like a drowned rat in the heavy rain. He stood motionless, looking upward, as if abandoned by the whole world, and no one knew how long he had been standing there in the shadow behind the rain curtain.

Su Yiran followed Gu Yuanting’s gaze and looked back up, discovering it was indeed the direction of his own apartment window.

The black umbrella Su Yiran held was rattled loudly by the pelting rain.

Gu Yuanting was startled by the movement here and stared blankly toward Su Yiran. Seeing him holding an umbrella behind the rain, he momentarily thought he was hallucinating.

Su Yiran silently sighed and walked over, raising the umbrella to shield Gu Yuanting from the rain.

Only then did Gu Yuanting regain a sense of reality. Joy and excitement surged in his heart as he suddenly hugged Su Yiran tightly, his eyes uncontrollably misting over, and finally he burst into tears.

In the rainy night, Gu Yuanting held Su Yiran tightly, crying aloud.

Su Yiran’s heart tightened. After a moment of silence, he finally reached out and stroked Gu Yuanting’s hair: “Let’s go upstairs.”

Hearing Su Yiran’s voice, Gu Yuanting immediately snapped out of it. He forced back his sobs, hastily let go of Su Yiran, pushed the umbrella toward him, and held his hand to shelter him as they walked into the building: “Quick, come inside and get out of the rain.” His voice still trembled with emotion.

Su Yiran did not refuse. The two quickly entered the door, the heavy rain cut off behind them. Su Yiran folded up the umbrella, shook off the raindrops, and looked at Gu Yuanting who was soaked through, like someone pulled from water, and asked with some reproach, “Why were you standing there like a fool? Why didn’t you come inside to avoid the rain?”

Gu Yuanting stared wide-eyed at Su Yiran, afraid that if he blinked, Su Yiran would disappear: “I… I wanted to watch you.” As he spoke, tears began to fall again.

Su Yiran pursed his lips. He knew Gu Yuanting was just staring at the window of their home, foolishly as if he could see him through the glass.

“Come upstairs.” Su Yiran said no more and led Gu Yuanting to the elevator, returning home. After closing the door, he glanced back and saw Gu Yuanting was still crying. He couldn’t help but feel helpless: “Alright, stop crying now.”

Gu Yuanting stood awkwardly nearby, quickly wiping his face with the back of his hand. Trying to hold back his tears, he failed and sobbed loudly again.

Su Yiran: “…”

Gu Yuanting controlled himself and tried again to explain: “Ranran, I really didn’t do it on purpose. That day… that day I suddenly lost my memory. I’m sorry, I lied to you about many things before, but I…”

Su Yiran nodded: “Go take a hot shower first, then we’ll talk.” Seeing Gu Yuanting still wanting to say more, he added, “Be obedient, go now.”

Gu Yuanting obediently entered the bathroom, quickly showered, and came out wearing a bathrobe. He found Su Yiran cooking noodles in the kitchen.

Gu Yuanting’s nose tingled and his eyes misted over again. He seemed to come back to life.

Su Yiran simply cooked egg noodles. When he saw Gu Yuanting come out clean, he served the noodles and said, “Come eat.”

Gu Yuanting followed him step by step. Su Yiran asked, “Have you eaten today?”

Gu Yuanting shook his head: “No.”

Su Yiran had guessed as much and didn’t say more, placing the noodles on the table: “Eat quickly.”

Gu Yuanting sat across from Su Yiran and slurped down the whole bowl of noodles.

Su Yiran asked, “Still hungry? Want me to cook more?”

Gu Yuanting quickly said, “No, I’m full.” He smiled happily at Su Yiran, “Very delicious.”

Su Yiran didn’t push. Eating too much at once wouldn’t be good. Gu Yuanting hurried to clean up the dishes, washed the pots and bowls in the kitchen, then came out to find Su Yiran sitting on the sofa waiting.

He immediately got nervous.

Su Yiran asked Gu Yuanting to sit beside him. After a moment of silence, he said, “Tell me everything you’re hiding, from beginning to end.”

Gu Yuanting sat tensely, no longer hiding anything. He told everything — about his previous life, his experiences, his death, his awakening and rebirth as a different self, and all the things he had hidden from Su Yiran before, every last detail.

As Su Yiran listened, his eyes gradually widened in shock. He realized Gu Yuanting must have still been hiding and deceiving him, but he never expected things to be so twisted, so bizarre… and so heartbreaking.

If he hadn’t crossed over from another world himself, he wouldn’t have believed Gu Yuanting’s story about dying and coming back to life as a child. It sounded too fantastical.

But he was a crossover himself, from another world — so someone being reborn was possible.

Su Yiran’s feelings mixed with shock, relief, sympathy, and doubt. He could feel Gu Yuanting’s love for him. Their past love was real, but the recent string of events and Gu Yuanting’s continuous concealments and lies made him hesitate.

Should he trust him? But making up such a wild lie would be very difficult and seemed unnecessary.

Moreover, the things Gu Yuanting said matched some past suspicions. If rebirth was real, then memory loss probably was too. Gu Yuanting’s past experiences explained his personality, his hidden secrets, and his behavior after losing memory.

After Gu Yuanting finished speaking, he saw Su Yiran was silent for a long time. His anxiety rose again as his voice trembled: “Ranran, I’m telling the truth, I’m sorry. I won’t lie to you again. I’m sorry…”

Su Yiran reached out and touched Gu Yuanting’s left leg, the one that was once seriously injured and nearly disabled. In Gu Yuanting’s past life, that leg was truly disabled. Su Yiran looked into Gu Yuanting’s eyes: “Is what you said true?”

Gu Yuanting nodded anxiously, “It’s true, Ranran. Believe me, I won’t lie anymore. I love you, I…”

Su Yiran breathed out, interrupting him: “I believe you.” Seeing the light instantly return to Gu Yuanting’s eyes, he smiled and couldn’t help but stroke his hair gently, “Let’s rest for today, have a good sleep.”

Whether to completely trust Gu Yuanting or not, Su Yiran still had his last hesitation deep inside, but he was willing to try to believe.

Most importantly, he still loved Gu Yuanting.

Gu Yuanting felt the warmth and love from Su Yiran’s simple gestures and words. The immense surprise and emotion of having him back engulfed him, and he couldn’t help but hug Su Yiran tightly, immersed in happiness and excitement: “Ranran…”

He felt like the luckiest man in the world — after all his mistakes, Su Yiran still treated him with such tenderness, even loved him.

Su Yiran hesitated briefly, thinking of Gu Yuanting’s past life experiences, but ultimately tenderness won. He hugged Gu Yuanting back gently, patting him: “Alright, go to sleep now. It’s very late.”

Though Gu Yuanting wanted to kiss and be close to Su Yiran, he knew it couldn’t happen all at once. Su Yiran had just accepted him back after so much, so they had to take it slow.

The night was deep, and the heavy rain outside had stopped, turning into a gentle drizzle.

The lights in the room went off, and the bedroom was plunged into darkness again. Gu Yuanting held Su Yiran in his arms as they lay under the same blanket, finally feeling a long-lost sense of security.

Before falling asleep, he couldn’t help but steal a kiss from Su Yiran.

He was his everything, his life.
