    โ€œPregnant???โ€

    โ€œPregnant???โ€

In the chief doctorโ€™s office, two voices of disbelief rang out simultaneouslyโ€”one purely incredulous, the other mixed with shock and anger.

โ€œYes,โ€ the chief doctor smiled as he handed over the test results to them, โ€œCongratulations.โ€

Su Yiran was stunned, still unable to process it. Pregnant? Pregnant with what? Whoโ€™s pregnant?

Gu Yuanting snatched the test report, glanced at it but couldnโ€™t understand it. He looked at the doctor and asked through gritted teeth, word by word, โ€œWhen… did… this… happen?โ€

The doctor was puzzled by Gu Yuantingโ€™s attitude and explained, โ€œMr. Su has been pregnant for about three months now. When was your last sexual encounter in October?โ€

    Octoberโ€ฆ

Su Yiran snapped back to reality and thought about the timeframe. He fell silent for a moment, then quietly said, โ€œI donโ€™t remember exactly, maybe around the 20th or so.โ€

That was before he and Gu Yuanting divorced.

โ€ฆIt seems to be the original ownerโ€™s child. Gu Yuanting nearly bit his tongue off in frustration.

He had already regarded Su Yiran as his possession, but before he could claim him, Su Yiran was already pregnant with someone elseโ€™s child.

โ€œThat matches,โ€ the doctor nodded and proceeded to explain some basic knowledge about male pregnancy.

Su Yiran listened, confused, but since the doctor said so, even if he didnโ€™t fully believe it, he had no choice but to accept it for now.

The doctor asked Su Yiran to take some additional tests. Gu Yuanting, suppressing his jealousy and anger towards the original owner, carefully helped Su Yiran lie down. Su Yiran listened to the doctorโ€™s instructions, then turned to look at the tiny embryo on the screen, which was pulsating with vibrant life.

Finally, Su Yiran believed it. Looking at the tiny embryo, a strange feeling arose in his heart. He looked down at his belly and felt odd.

But no matter what, unexpectedly, he was going to have a child.

Gu Yuanting was also looking at the screen, suppressing cruel thoughts in his heart. After a long moment, he calmed down.

He looked at Su Yiran, then at the embryo. Perhaps this was a chanceโ€”a chance for him to be with Su Yiran again.

The more he thought about it, the more right it felt. Su Yiran had โ€œhisโ€ child, so even for the childโ€™s sake, he would agree to his proposal and be with him again, right?

Thinking this, Gu Yuanting found the embryo somewhat appealing and began imagining a future together with Su Yiran.

After the doctor finished the additional tests, he began to advise the two on pregnancy precautions. Unaware that the two were divorced and assuming they were a married couple, he specifically told them that due to Su Yiranโ€™s unique condition, they should abstain from sexual activity during the pregnancy.

Su Yiran felt a bit embarrassed and shy from the doctorโ€™s remarks and responded awkwardly, while Gu Yuanting seriously promised, as if it was really possible for them to be intimate again.

The check-ups were done, and Su Yiran and Gu Yuanting left the hospital. Walking on the street, Su Yiran couldnโ€™t help but glance down at his belly, gently touching it before quickly withdrawing his handโ€”wanting to touch but hesitant.

Gu Yuanting watched Su Yiranโ€™s somewhat childlike movements and felt his heart soften. He stroked Su Yiranโ€™s head, and Su Yiran, touched, suddenly recollected himself, gathering all the shock, disbelief, and strange feelings inside to become calm.

It was still afternoon. They stopped at a nearby tea restaurant and ordered some snacks. Remembering the doctorโ€™s advice, Gu Yuanting ordered Su Yiran a cup of warm milk instead of tea.

Su Yiran glanced at Gu Yuanting and started drinking the warm milk.

Gu Yuanting looked at obedient Su Yiran drinking the milk, his heart trembling.

He pushed the snack tray towards him: โ€œWant some snacks? This is sweet. You like sweet things.โ€

Having spied on Su Yiran for so long via surveillance, he knew Su Yiran loved sweets.

Su Yiran shook his head. He knew the real reason they were here wasnโ€™t for tea and snacks.

He quickly finished the milk, set down the cup, and looked at Gu Yuanting. โ€œWhat do you plan to do?โ€

Gu Yuanting knew the serious talk was about to start. He tightened his grip on the teacup and said, โ€œRanran, come with me to Country D.โ€

Country D? Su Yiran was puzzled.

After returning to his family in Country D, Gu Yuanting hadnโ€™t yet expanded his business domestically and kept a low profile in the media, so Su Yiran didnโ€™t know his true status. He only knew Gu Yuanting had hidden a lot from him and wasnโ€™t an ordinary person.

Seeing Su Yiranโ€™s confusion, Gu Yuanting decided to reveal everything since heโ€™d already decided to be with him.

He left out that he wasnโ€™t the original owner and told Su Yiran the whole story.

โ€œNow, the Gu family is stable,โ€ Gu Yuanting reached out and held Su Yiranโ€™s hands resting on the table, looking at him expectantly, โ€œCome with me to Country D. Letโ€™s remarry.โ€

When he said โ€œremarry,โ€ his heart twisted. It was his first marriage, but it was Su Yiranโ€™s secondโ€”because the original owner had taken away his first.

โ€œIโ€ฆ havenโ€™t processed all this yet,โ€ Su Yiran pulled his hands away. The information was overwhelming. โ€œLet me think about it.โ€

Gu Yuantingโ€™s hands were empty now. He wanted to grab Su Yiranโ€™s hands again but restrained himself, telling himself not to rush.

When Su Yiran didnโ€™t respond for a while, Gu Yuanting grew anxious. He tried to persuade him with the reasons he had prepared: โ€œWhen the Gu family first approached me, I was worried the family feud might endanger your safety, so I chose to divorce you.โ€

The real reason, of course, was not this, but it was the most reasonable excuse to win Su Yiranโ€™s forgiveness.

โ€œBut no matter what, I shouldnโ€™t have divorced you,โ€ Gu Yuanting said, โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Ranran. Can you forgive me?โ€

Su Yiran was a little lost: โ€œBut you said you didnโ€™t love me then.โ€

Gu Yuantingโ€™s breath caughtโ€”it was the truth. He wasnโ€™t the original owner but had just transmigrated, so he truly didnโ€™t love Su Yiran then.

Now, he himself wasnโ€™t sure whether his feelings were love, influence from the original owner, or just pure possessiveness.

In reality, he and Su Yiran had only spent a few days together, right after his rebirth. After that, three months passed without meeting, and he only watched Su Yiranโ€™s life through surveillance and reports.

How did he come to feel so deeply for him?

He didnโ€™t know, couldnโ€™t tell, so he decided not to overthink itโ€”he just knew he wanted this person in front of him.

He wanted to have him, possess him, control every bit of him.

โ€œI lied to you then,โ€ Gu Yuanting coaxed Su Yiran gently, โ€œForget those words, okay? Everything is settled now. No more danger. We can be together. Andโ€ฆโ€

โ€œRanran, youโ€ฆ we have a baby now,โ€ Gu Yuanting used the most convincing reason, โ€œA baby canโ€™t be without another father. Come with me to Country D. We can give the baby the best resources, the best education, and the best lifeโ€ฆโ€

It was the original ownerโ€™s child, and Gu Yuanting would fulfill his promise to provide the best for the child and raise it well.

But actually, he had another selfish motive: Country D was far away, and with Su Yiran away from his homeland and only with him, he would definitely rely on him more. The Gu familyโ€”and even the whole Country Dโ€”was now his stronghold. Su Yiran would live forever under his control, unable to escape.

He would provide the best conditions, cage Su Yiran in a huge invisible golden cage, lavish him with love and material comforts, isolate him from everyone else, so that Su Yiranโ€™s eyes would only see him, smile only for him, and have room in his heart only for him.

Thinking about this beautiful future, Gu Yuanting couldnโ€™t help but get excited, his eyes flashing with a sickly light when he looked at Su Yiran.

Su Yiran met Gu Yuantingโ€™s gaze and strangely felt his look was intimidating, making him a little afraid.

If they hadnโ€™t divorced, if their feelings hadnโ€™t โ€œbroken,โ€ Su Yiran would have slapped Gu Yuantingโ€™s head right now and lectured him without hesitation, not felt this inexplicable fear.

But now it was differentโ€”they were divorced.

Su Yiran had spent three months alone, building thick walls around his heart again. Even if he found it hard to let go of the feelings, he had sealed them away and started a new life. Gu Yuanting was now telling him that the real reason for the divorce was different.

Listening to Gu Yuantingโ€™s explanation, Su Yiran felt he didnโ€™t really understand him.

Gu Yuanting spoke of the Gu family far away in Country D. Su Yiran had heard about the Gu family from news ten years ago. Gu Yuanting was the abducted heirโ€”this was unexpected but reasonable.

Gu Yuanting told him the divorce reason was a lie.

Using the most heartbreaking, irreversible reason to lie to him?

Gu Yuanting said the real reason was to protect him.

Why not just tell him directly? How could such a big decision as divorce be made alone?

Now, Su Yiran didnโ€™t know whether to believe Gu Yuanting.

Sometimes he even felt Gu Yuanting was a stranger.

A month ago, Su Yiran attended a middle school reunion. The Gu Yuanting described by classmates was completely different from who he knew. He knew Gu Yuanting had some flaws like jealousy and possessiveness but hadnโ€™t minded it. But hearing the stories from classmates made him think the Gu Yuanting he faced was someone else.

    How scary.

If it was before the divorce, he would have confronted Gu Yuanting and demanded the truth.

But now they were divorced. Was it necessary to dig into the past?

Su Yiran didnโ€™t know if he could accept Gu Yuanting even if he believed him.

โ€œRanranโ€ฆโ€ Gu Yuanting finished all his prepared reasons, but after waiting for a long time, Su Yiran still didnโ€™t respond. Anxiety rose in his heart.

Originally, he was confident. When he wanted the divorce, Su Yiran agreed but actually didnโ€™t want itโ€”though that was because Su Yiran loved the original owner.

But in Su Yiranโ€™s eyes, he was the original owner. Now he was sincerely apologizing and asking to remarry. Su Yiran should forgive him and be happy to be with him, right?

Besides, he had many other advantages: his identity, what he now possessedโ€”things he never thought were merits before, but now thought he was better than the original owner.

He could give Su Yiran a better life, though secretly depriving his freedom.

And now Su Yiran was pregnantโ€”they had a baby.

Gu Yuanting reviewed his advantages again, steadied his heart, and looked at Su Yiran expectantly: โ€œRanran, please say yes.โ€

โ€œIโ€ฆ let me think,โ€ Su Yiranโ€™s mind was chaotic. Heโ€™d received too much information todayโ€”first the unbelievable pregnancy, then Gu Yuantingโ€™s words. He couldnโ€™t sort it all out yet.

He originally thought Gu Yuanting came to discuss custody or something else he could guess.

His feelings for Gu Yuanting were not gone, just sealed deep inside, maybe fading with time.

He knew Gu Yuantingโ€™s childhood history and felt pity. Knowing Gu Yuantingโ€™s identity now only deepened his sympathy. He could easily imagine the fierce family struggles and the heavy pressure Gu Yuanting faced.

Su Yiran couldnโ€™t figure things out yet, so he told Gu Yuanting, โ€œGive me a few days. Iโ€™ll go home and think carefully. When Iโ€™m clear, Iโ€™ll give you my answer.โ€

Gu Yuanting didnโ€™t expect this result and felt a bad premonition. โ€œA few days? How many exactly?โ€

Su Yiran thought for a moment and gave a definite number: โ€œThree days.โ€

    (To be continuedโ€ฆ)

ยทA small side story: The Chain Incident (Sequel to the main story)

Since regaining his memories and being honest with Ranran, Gu Yuanting felt like he was bubbling with happiness every day, and their little life together was as sweet as honey.

He thought that period of amnesia, though it came with postpartum depression and severe depression that made him feel like neither fully human nor ghost, nearly drove him to self-destruction and caused Ranran a lot of trouble, actually had some benefits.

For example, his own emotional knots were completely untied, and he and Ranran became mutually honest. Gu Yuanting felt their relationship had deepened and elevated.

He even praised his amnesiac self a few times in his heart, not as resentful or jealous as before.

One day, Gu Yuanting was holding Ranran in his arms, warmly kissing and chatting, reminiscing about some old fun memories, when he suddenly remembered their old photo album. He immediately said, โ€œIโ€™ll get the old album.โ€

He wanted to look through the old album with Ranran, to reminisce.

Su Yiran also wanted to look at the album. โ€œYou go check in the study. I donโ€™t know where it was put. I didnโ€™t find it last time in the bookshelf.โ€

Gu Yuanting stiffened, instantly recalling some things about the album. He quickly said, โ€œIโ€™ll go look for it.โ€

This was another โ€œgood deedโ€ he did during his amnesia periodโ€”out of jealousy, he had tossed the old album into a corner. Gu Yuantingโ€™s face turned dark; it seemed like if he didnโ€™t scold his amnesiac self for a few days, it would come out and make him uncomfortable again.

Su Yiran guessed that the old album must have been thrown into some corner by the amnesiac Yuanting, and couldnโ€™t help but laugh, โ€œGo ahead.โ€

The album was probably tossed inside the corner cabinet. Gu Yuanting entered the study, recalling, and opened the top cabinet doorโ€”no album. Then he opened the bottom cabinet door and saw the contents. His whole body stiffened.

Inside was a blue-cased photo album, lying crookedly to one sideโ€”obviously casually thrown in, and indeed the old album they were looking for. But this wasnโ€™t the main point.

Next to the album was a set of black chains and handcuffs, quietly lying inside the corner cabinet, seemingly also casually tossed there.

    Chains… and handcuffs!

A series of images quickly flashed through Gu Yuantingโ€™s mind: pale white Ranranโ€™s wrists and ankles locked in black chains, pinned beneath him, struggling, the chains swinging, Ranranโ€™s teary eyes hazy as he was teased, only able to cry and beg him…

Gu Yuanting recalled that seductive scene and immediately had a reaction.

Then, like a crazy person, he suddenly got inexplicably jealous again. During his amnesia, he had actually locked Ranran in a small dark room, played a captivity game, doing things he had secretly wanted to do but never dared or was allowed to do.

Gu Yuantingโ€™s face turned as dark as a pot bottom.

Trying to defile his own wifeโ€ฆ look at you.

Su Yiran obediently sat on the bedroom bed, waiting for Yuanting to bring over the old album. The two were going to have a cozy night talk before sleep, reminiscing warmly.

After waiting a long time, Yuanting finally came back, but Su Yiran didnโ€™t get the longed-for album. Instead, he got a set of black chains and handcuffs…

Gu Yuanting closed the bedroom door behind him, holding the black chains and handcuffs, looked over at him, and gave a twistedly gentle smile.

    Su Yiran: โ€œ???????โ€

    __

Authorโ€™s note: Gu Yuanting was very satisfied to play with his beloved Ranran like this once again.

(The divorce side story roughly goes like this: divorce โ†’ chasing wife โ†’ failure โ†’ turning dark โ†’ fiery destruction)
