by RottenPotatoLin Chi’s hands gripped the sofa tightly, gripping so hard that his veins bulged out. His expression was ugly. “He Qing, are you just playing with me right now?”
The blindfolded teenager didn’t speak, but his hands hidden beneath the throw pillow were trembling. His voice was still soft and sweet. In the past, Lin Chi had loved it most when he called out to him so softly, but now, that voice he once couldn’t get enough of was saying: “Let’s break up.”
Lin Chi became unusually furious. He was certain that the person in front of him had just used him; after seducing his far more powerful father, he was kicking him, the stepping stone, aside without hesitation!
He violently smashed the fruit plate from the table onto the floor, sending apples rolling everywhere. Lin Chi stood up, his handsome face, so similar to Lin Cheng’s, filled with hatred: “Get lost! Get the hell out of here!!”
As he spoke, he snatched the crutch He Qing had placed aside, the very crutch he had painstakingly chosen for him. He forcefully hurled it away, practically roaring: “Get lost!!”
The blindfolded teenager, whose expression remained calm, slowly stood up. Having lost the support of his crutch, with an injured leg and unable to see, he slowly fumbled his way toward the door. Accidentally stepping on an apple on the floor, he violently slipped.
—Bang!
Even from a distance, Lin Chi could hear the heavy thud of a head smashing against the floor. His face visibly paled. He stood up abruptly and was about to rush toward the silent teenager on the ground, but another figure moved faster than him, scooping He Qing up into his embrace.
It was Lin Cheng.
In his arms was the teenager’s soft body. He shot a fierce, piercing glare at Lin Chi, who had frozen in place. Intimidated by this gaze, Lin Chi’s face turned deathly pale, and he dared not move.
He had completely lost the presence of mind to wonder if He Qing was hurt anywhere. His mind was consumed by a single thought: Did Father hear what we just said?
Would he change his heir because of this?
Lin Chi was still in a daze, but the man had already scooped up the unconscious teenager in his arms and walked straight out the door. By the time he snapped back to reality, all that was left was a mess on the floor.
[Lin Chi favorability: 84] The system’s inorganic voice carried a hint of confusion: [You clearly had such a huge falling out with the Host, yet his favorability still increased. Humans are truly strange.]
[There will be plenty more strange things in the future~]
He Qing slowly opened his eyes. There was a thin layer of gauze covering his eyes, but unlike before, he could see light filtering in through it. By his ear, an unfamiliar voice was saying something.
“The patient’s misfortune turned into a blessing. This bump happened to break up the blood clot. The originally scheduled surgery can be canceled. Afterward, as long as he rests well and no adverse reactions are found, he can be discharged from the hospital.”
He Qing touched the gauze over his eyes in confusion. Was he… cured?
He was hesitating when a large, cold hand suddenly rested on top of his. He Qing trembled. By his ear was Lin Cheng’s pleasant, magnetic voice gently asking, “A-Qing, how do you feel? Does your head still hurt?”
Head?
He Qing belatedly realized that the back of his head was indeed throbbing with pain. He tried hard to recall what exactly had happened, but after remembering, he wished he could just have amnesia forever.
Pulling his hand out from under the large hand with lightning speed, He Qing tried his best not to show his fear. “Uncle Lin, I’m really sorry for troubling you. I will pay back the medical expenses!”
The bed sank slightly, and the sound of another person’s breathing appeared beside him. He heard Lin Cheng say with a smile, “We can talk about the medical expenses later. A-Qing heard it too, right? The doctor said that because you were blind for a long time, you need to adapt slowly now that you’ve suddenly recovered, which is why they put the gauze on. Come, let me help you take it off.”
As he spoke, just like before, he didn’t wait for He Qing to agree before reaching out to untie the gauze wrapped around his eyes. The teenager in front of him tried hard to conceal his stiffness, but Lin Cheng could feel that even his breathing was cautious.
Knowing clearly why the boy was acting this way, the man still maintained a completely calm demeanor. As the gauze was removed, he naturally placed his own hand over He Qing’s eyes to replace the gauze. The covered eyes blinked uneasily, the long eyelashes brushing against his palm, creating an itch that went straight to his heart.
“Now, slowly open your eyes…”
He Qing obediently closed his eyes and slowly opened them again. A faint light peeked through the gaps between the fingers. Gradually, the fingers spread open, and dazzling light reappeared before him. The teenager had been in the dark for too long; suddenly seeing the light, his eyes couldn’t quite handle it and blinked rapidly, tears quickly accumulating in them.
The sight of the teenager with tears in his eyes, blinking pitifully as he looked at him, was simply too impactful. Lin Cheng’s Adam’s apple bobbed slowly. He moved his hand away completely, and He Qing clearly saw his face.
[Ah~]
[What’s wrong, Host?]
[So handsome~ He’s exactly my type, mine!!]
The man in front of him clearly shared a blood relation with Lin Chi at a glance, but was hundreds, thousands of times more outstanding than Lin Chi. Especially those eyes, which were even deeper and more mesmerizing than Lin Chi’s. A high nose bridge, tightly pursed thin lips, and that unsmiling, ascetic look—it perfectly hit every single one of He Qing’s sweet spots.
[So handsome! I want to flirt with him!]
The system coldly woke him up from his fantasy: [Stop dreaming, Host. The mission target isn’t him. The person you need to complete the task with is someone else.]
In Lin Cheng’s eyes, the teenager was looking at him with teary eyes. His nose was slightly red from the sudden exposure to light, and even his cheeks had two small flushes of pink.
The hand resting by his side twitched imperceptibly. “A-Qing, can you see me?”
He Qing finally snapped back to reality. He hurriedly rubbed his eyes, wiping his tears clean. His newly revitalized eyes were filled with unease. He shrank his body slightly and asked timidly, “A-Chi, is he…”
He wanted to ask if A-Chi had come, but before he could finish, he remembered that he and A-Chi had already broken up. He hated him so much; how could he possibly come!
The teenager’s expression visibly dimmed. Lin Cheng’s gaze darkened slightly. “Don’t blame Lin Chi. He’s about to take the college entrance examination, and his fiancée is at the same school. After seeing me bring you to the hospital, he hurriedly rushed back to school.”
He Qing’s eyes shot up, the corners slightly red, and he asked, his voice breaking, “A-Chi’s fiancée is at our school?”
“Yes.” Lin Cheng had a smile on his face, looking like a good father who was happy for his son. “You and Lin Chi are in the same class, right? Then you should know his fiancée too. Her name is Sun Yumeng. I heard from Lin Chi that she’s even your class monitor.”
Sun Yumeng…
He Qing almost immediately thought back to the time Sun Yumeng had stopped him, and A-Chi had suddenly appeared to hastily drag him away. So much had happened since then that he hadn’t thought deeply about it, but looking back now… was A-Chi afraid that Sun Yumeng would discover their relationship?
…Did A-Chi already know back then that he was going to get engaged to Sun Yumeng?
“A-Qing, why are you crying again? Are your eyes still uncomfortable?” Lin Cheng looked at the teenager whose tears were falling pitter-patter, his tone gentle. “Should I call the doctor over to take a look?”
“N-No need…” Lowering his head and biting his lip to suppress his sobs, He Qing wiped away his tears haphazardly and choked out, “It was just the wind blowing…”
Lin Cheng’s gaze swept over the tightly shut windows, but he didn’t say anything.
