by DewdropTLHow could there be two Lu Lis?
Could it still be Xu Li?
Just like last time, when Xie Jianwei mistook Xu Li for Lu Li and risked his life to save him, only for the person to revert back to his original form, overturning Lu Li’s jealousy. If not for Xie Jianwei’s timely amnesia, the entire plot likely would have hurtled toward an irreversible tragedy.
If it was Xu Li, Xie Jianwei had zero reason to save him. After all, he had amnesia; he wasn’t about to play out melodramatic tropes like having amnesia yet still instinctively remembering an ex-lover, where the body reacts faster than the brain.
After all, this was merely a test, and he still possessed the right to steer its direction.
Yet Xie Jianwei had clearly underestimated his big pervert. Though lacking formal education, the man had been tutored hand-in-hand by him and had sat in the Marshal’s seat for years. Setting aside other talents, when it came to the single skill of stirring up trouble, if he claimed second place, nobody in the entire universe would dare claim first.
And so, just as Military Advisor Xie made up his mind to hold his ground and leave the person to die, the Lu Li beside him suddenly transformed into Xu Li!
Xie Jianwei: “…”
Was this damn well setting up a grand drama where, despite having amnesia, he still falls head over heels upon seeing Xu Li, callously leaving Lu Li to die?
Could you show some semblance of logic, baby? Who plays around like this?
Can perfectly good living people just swap positions at the drop of a hat? Could you please not throw logic out the window just to pour on the melodrama!
How was anyone supposed to cooperate with a script like this!
For as long as he could remember, Xie Jianwei had never felt this cornered.
Save him or not?
He was certain that the moment he lunged toward the Lu Li in the middle of the road, that Lu Li would turn into Xu Li in an instant. Yet if he didn’t lunge forward, the Lu Li beside him would also turn into Xu Li in an instant.
In short, whatever he chose to do, Lu Li was stubbornly convinced that he would choose Xu Li.
All of this unfolded in a fraction of a second. Just as Xie Jianwei was racking his brain for a way out, the Lu Li beside him suddenly spoke up: “Why am I over there?”
Xie Jianwei froze in shock.
Lu Li could see the other Lu Li too?
What he saw wasn’t Xu Li?
In that case, could that truly not be Xu Li, but Lu Li? Were there genuinely two Lu Lis?
Xie Jianwei’s mind worked at lightning speed: two Lu Lis wasn’t an impossible scenario. After all, Xie Jianwei had suspected for a while that other personalities might be capable of interfering in this dream. Otherwise, as prone to overthinking as Lu Li was, he wouldn’t torture himself to the extent of forcing Xie Jianwei to save Xu Li.
Under normal logic, in that kind of scenario, Lu Li’s inner thought would definitely be that Xu Li deserved to die, deserved to be run over by ten cars.
Yet the end result had been Xie Jianwei getting hit.
If it were the Lu Li trapped inside the dream, he would never allow an accident to befall Xie Jianwei under any circumstances. After all, in his eyes, this dream was reality. Even if Xie Jianwei didn’t die, he would suffer immense pain, and on that point alone, Lu Li could never bring himself to do it.
However, if it were Lu Li from another personality, he was very likely to do such a thing. Because he didn’t belong to this dream, he knew it was all fake. If he could turn Xu Li into Lu Li in an instant, he surely had the confidence to spare Xie Jianwei any sensation of pain.
And that was precisely what had happened: Xie Jianwei had been hit half to death, yet far from being paralyzed in bed, he hadn’t even felt a speck of physical pain.
Thinking along these lines, several previously illogical occurrences began to make sense.
The Lu Li inside the dream would certainly adhere to logic, because he believed it to be the real world; but a Lu Li outside this dream would pay no heed to logic, knowing it was merely an illusion.
In reality, they were already slaughtering each other; inside the dream, they would obviously spare no effort in sabotaging themselves.
Frowning, Xie Jianwei wondered what on earth should be done.
Right at that moment, the Lu Li beside him blurted out, “A-Wei, that isn’t me!”
Xie Jianwei: “…” It really is you, though…
Meanwhile, the Lu Li standing in the middle of the road stared at Xie Jianwei unblinkingly, his pitch-black eyes almost melting into the night.
Xie Jianwei’s heart gave a sudden thud, softening at his gaze.
Both sides were flesh and blood; seeing either one court death brought him heartache.
Still, Xie Jianwei didn’t feel as torn as before. Since the Lu Li beside him also saw Lu Li, he could go ahead and save him, explaining afterward that he simply couldn’t stand by and watch him die.
Just as he moved to act, he looked closely again, only to find the wide road completely empty.
Whether Lu Li or Xu Li, both had vanished, leaving only speeding vehicles whizzing past.
Xie Jianwei was stunned. Lu Li knitted his brow tightly as well.
Mulling it over, Xie Jianwei formed an idea: it seemed Number Two Lu Li wasn’t yet capable of truly entering another personality’s dream.
It stood to reason; if he could enter freely, why would he stop at such minor mischief?
He would have turned the entire world upside down.
Xie Jianwei breathed a temporary sigh of relief, though a lingering worry remained in his heart.
Number Two couldn’t enter Number One’s dream right now, but what about in the future?
Could there come a dream where he would have to face several Lu Lis at once?
What kind of therapy would that even be? He might as well pull up a chair and watch them fight each other to the death!
His eyebrow twitched, hoping he was merely overthinking.
Lu Li’s voice pulled him back to the present: “Just now…”
Xie Jianwei feigned ignorance: “What is it?”
A glint flickered in Lu Li’s eyes: “Did you see me in the middle of the road?”
Xie Jianwei smiled, taking his hand: “How could that be? Aren’t you right beside me?”
Lu Li watched him for a while before finally saying, “Yes. I am right beside you.”
Xie Jianwei pecked the corner of his lips, whispering softly, “Stay by my side, always and forever.”
Lu Li smiled as well: “All right.”
Because of this minor incident, Xie Jianwei didn’t continue his pampered freeloader life. He began quietly contacting useful people, preparing to stage a major event.
Lu Li’s current psychological knot was the terror that Xie Jianwei might regain his memories one day and discard him.
Xie Jianwei originally hadn’t been in a rush to resolve this, but with Number Two Lu Li flickering in and out, he felt he couldn’t delay any longer. If Number Two stirred up trouble again, it would be impossible to guard against.
When it came to psychological knots, destruction preceded construction.
Though drawing blood tore flesh with sharp pain, once endured, it marked the beginning of recovery.
Xie Jianwei arranged a chance encounter.
The amnesiac Xie Jianwei finally met Xu Li.
Lu Li’s hands trembled, his silverware clattering to the floor. His face turned pale in an instant, an unmistakable dread filling his dark eyes.
Why was Xu Li here?
Seeing him, would Xie Jianwei…
Xu Li had already rushed over, wailing loudly, “Ah-Wei, it’s all my fault! I harmed you! If you hadn’t risked your life to save me, you wouldn’t have fallen into this demon’s clutches, wouldn’t have had the Xie Corporation stolen by him, and wouldn’t be imprisoned by him in…”
“Who are you?” Xie Jianwei asked, his eyes devoid of warmth.
Having learned of Xie Jianwei’s amnesia long ago, Xu Li pleaded frantically, “Xu Li, I am Xu Li! We are the real lovers, the ones truly in love! You were hit by a car to save me, which made you forget everything! A-Wei, Lu Li deceived you! You’ve been tricked by this ungrateful beast!”
Xie Jianwei stood up abruptly.
Lu Li remained motionless. His head lowered, his fingernails dug deeply into his palms, yet he felt no pain at all.
The sweet dream had finally ended, yet he hadn’t expected it to crumble so fast.
“Lu Li deceived me?” Xie Jianwei let out a cold laugh. “Why on earth would I believe a stranger like you?”
Xu Li stared in utter shock, while Lu Li snapped his head up in disbelief.
Fixing his gaze on Xu Li, Xie Jianwei declared, “I have amnesia, not brain damage. How Lu Li treats me is crystal clear to me. Even if I remember everything, I will still love him.”
Unwilling to concede, Xu Li moved to say more, but Lu Li, having regained his wits, raised a hand. The guards stationed outside stepped forward and hauled Xu Li away.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was somewhat stiff. Lu Li spoke first: “What he said…”
Stepping forward, Xie Jianwei cupped his face and said earnestly, “Lu Li, I love you.”
Lu Li froze. Xie Jianwei continued, “If I didn’t love you in the past, then forgetting it is for the best. I don’t want those memories anyway; I only want the memories of being with you from now on.”
Lu Li’s eyes were filled with pure disbelief.
Xie Jianwei smiled at him: “Don’t believe me? Then I’ll ask you again thirty years from now…”
In a raspy whisper, Lu Li asked, “If I did something terrible, would you…”
“You did nothing wrong. Lu Li, you are never in the wrong.” Standing so close their noses brushed, Xie Jianwei said tenderly, “I love you. Every single part of you, I love.”
Flaws or virtues, from the moment he accepted Lu Li, he fell in love with everything that made him who he was.
If he didn’t understand, it didn’t matter; he would make him understand, no matter how many times it took.
Xie Jianwei accompanied Lu Li through an exceptionally long dream spanning an entire decade.
Throughout these ten years, Xie Jianwei never recovered his memories.
He used the passage of time to soothe Lu Li’s deep-seated insecurity.
Waking from the dream, Xie Jianwei didn’t feel much of a disruption in time.
Yan Ke breathed a massive sigh of relief: “Not easy at all! We’ve finally put this personality into temporary slumber.”
Xie Jianwei hummed in agreement: “Mm.”
Brimming with motivation, Yan Ke said, “I hope the next personality goes just as smoothly.”
Checking the time, Xie Jianwei said, “Open another magnetic field.”
Yan Ke knew what was on his mind: “Good idea. The Galactic Gala is coming up, and the Lord Marshal needs to be awake for the military review.”
Xie Jianwei nodded in agreement.
With the experience from the previous dream, Xie Jianwei and Yan Ke assumed this time would go even more smoothly, as they had already deciphered Classmate Old Lu’s playbooks.
Yet when Xie Jianwei opened his eyes, he finally grasped the ancient saying: the city’s schemes run deep; send me back to the countryside!
Xie Jianwei had become a young teenager, and lying before him was a diary written by himself.
Reading just a short excerpt left him with deeply conflicted emotions.
Date: XX/XX/20XX.
Doctor Lu didn’t come.
Why didn’t Doctor Lu come?
Did Doctor Lu go to take care of someone else?
Why can’t Doctor Lu look only at me, care only for me, and belong only to me?
Doctor Lu, Doctor Lu, Doctor Lu, Doctor Lu, Doctor Lu…
Xie Jianwei: “…” What a wonderfully deranged, yandere brat.
