by DewdropTLXie Jianwei pondered to himself that this angle he chose ought to be quite dependable.
It wasn’t that he hadn’t waited by the window for him, but rather that he had become completely entranced looking at him, and not even at his physical person, but merely an interview photograph in a magazine.
Xie Jianwei felt he had quite the knack for playing a yandere, surely because he had catered to Lu “Yandere” Big Li for a time.
A young master staring at a dog-eared magazine and shedding golden tears was truly heart-meltingly pitiable.
Lu Li’s eyes flickered, and he asked softly, “Do you like this magazine?”
This was a medical journal that practically no one outside the profession would read, yet Xie Jianwei nodded repeatedly.
Lu Li stepped closer, his voice turning even gentler, “I’ll have someone send you a whole set later on.”
Looking up, Xie Jianwei pleaded anxiously, “I only want this one.”
Because only this issue had Lu Li’s photo.
Lu Li paused for a moment, then indulged him, “Alright.”
Xie Jianwei beamed with delight.
He was an adolescent youth after all, wearing his joy and discontent openly upon his face.
Lu Li’s gaze drifted to his curved, rosy lips, and he smiled along with him.
“It’s just as well that you haven’t eaten, we can draw some blood today.”
Xie Jianwei remembered the diary mentioning that he feared having blood drawn above all else, so he promptly let his face pale.
Heaven only knew how Military Advisor Xie, who never batted an eye when drenched in blood on the battlefield, managed to feign a terror of needles and blood. In any case, it came down to pure skill.
Lu Li comforted him, “Don’t be afraid, it will only take a moment.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, a delicate nurse wheeled in the medical cart.
Xie Jianwei showed clear aversion to her, shrinking closer toward Lu Li.
Lu Li naturally gathered him into an embrace, whispering beside his ear, “If you’re scared, just don’t look.”
Xie Jianwei buried himself entirely in his arms, his heart thumping wildly.
This part wasn’t an act; his heart genuinely pounded. His Old Lu might be somewhat unhinged, but he was undeniably handsome, especially when putting on this tender facade, breathtaking enough to make anyone’s pulse race.
Lu Li patted his back gently as if soothing a child. The motion remained entirely proper, without the slightest hint of inappropriate intimacy.
Xie Jianwei thought to himself, Keep pretending, see how long you can keep it up.
Then, without drawing attention, he exhaled a soft breath against Lu Li’s chest through the thin shirt. Sure enough, Gentleman Lu’s body stiffened slightly.
Finding it amusing, Xie Jianwei wanted to tease him further, but Lu Li released him, asking, “If you don’t look, is it less frightening?”
Only then did Xie Jianwei realize the blood draw was already over.
Glancing at the small puncture mark on his arm, he put on a brave front, “As long as Doctor Lu is here, I’m not afraid of anything.”
Doctor Lu stroked his soft hair gently, “Xiao Wei is very brave.”
Xie Jianwei’s heart fluttered at that low, soothing voice.
A deadpan, solemn Lord Marshal was extraordinarily alluring, a truth Military Advisor Xie endorsed wholeheartedly.
Follow-up examinations remained after the blood draw, but Lu Li paused them, saying instead, “Shall we eat first?”
Recalling the spicy beef noodles, Xie Jianwei knitted his brows, “I don’t want to eat.”
“Be good,” Lu Li smiled, “how can you grow up if you don’t eat?”
This happened to be Xie Jianwei’s psychological sore spot; he longed to grow up, be independent, and leave this cursed place once he reached adulthood.
So when Lu Li phrased it like that, Xie Jianwei dropped his stubbornness. Furthermore, classmate Old Xie was genuinely starving to the point of lightheadedness, his stomach practically glued to his spine. A brief token refusal was plenty; he couldn’t actually starve himself.
With Lu Li present, breakfast took on an entirely different standard.
These servants knew how to read the wind, bullying the young master behind closed doors, but turning into paragons of propriety whenever an outsider was near, leaving no room for fault. If Xie Jianwei threw a fit, it would only make them look wronged and make the young master seem unreasonable.
Over all these years, only one maid named A-Juan had been driven away.
The reason had been her improper designs on Lu Li, attempting to seduce him. Lu Li rejected her overtures completely, believing such a servant would corrupt the young master, and dismissed her immediately.
Because of incidents like this, Xie Jianwei became all the more devoted to Doctor Lu.
Whenever Doctor Lu visited, his life changed for the better.
Though he couldn’t pinpoint every subtle shift, the food became delicious, the obnoxious servants stayed out of sight, and his body felt far more comfortable.
All of this was Doctor Lu’s doing, gifts bestowed by Doctor Lu.
Therefore, he liked Doctor Lu, liking Doctor Lu above all else.
Arranged on the dining table was light yet richly nourishing congee, a steamer of crystal shrimp dumplings that whetted the appetite at a glance, and a side of fresh, crisp bamboo shoots. The combination was exquisite, prepared with masterly finesse, and tasted so delightful it sent a pleasant shiver across the tongue.
Xie Jianwei was ravenous enough to down three bowls, but keeping his frail condition in mind, he restrained himself to one.
Lu Li ladled more porridge into his bowl, “Eat a little more.”
Xie Jianwei beamed instantly, “Okay.”
When the beautiful youth smiled, it was like the glow of morning clouds, breathtakingly lovely.
Lu Li’s fingers twitched slightly as he said softly, “Once your health stabilizes, I will take you…”
He stopped abruptly before finishing the sentence.
Xie Jianwei’s eyes sparkled, “Doctor Lu, what did you say?”
Seeming to catch himself, Lu Li shook his head, “Nothing.”
Unwilling to drop it, Xie Jianwei pressed, “I heard you say once my health…”
Lu Li smiled, cutting him off, “Once your health stabilizes, I will inform your parents and have them take you…”
“No!” Xie Jianwei furrowed his brows tightly, “I don’t want to see them!”
Lu Li fell silent for a moment, then steered the conversation away, “Drink some more porridge.”
Looking at the bowl in front of him, Xie Jianwei’s delicate face was torn with hesitation.
Doctor Lu had ladled this porridge for him, so he wanted to eat it; yet thinking of his parents ruined his appetite, making him reluctant.
What should he do?
Lu Li called softly, “Xiao Wei?”
The instant his voice sounded, Xie Jianwei’s mind filled entirely with Doctor Lu once more. Naturally, he polished off every drop.
A routine checkup followed breakfast. When Lu Li placed the stethoscope against his chest, Xie Jianwei shrank back slightly.
Lu Li asked, “Is it cold?”
Xie Jianwei puffed his chest out at once, “Not cold!”
The youth possessed a slender, beautifully contoured frame. Dressed in sheer, pale clothing, the fabric barely concealed the rosy points on his chest. Pushing his chest out now left them fully on display, standing pert like fruit waiting to be plucked, parching the watcher’s throat.
Lu Li’s gaze darkened, his Adam’s apple bobbing almost imperceptibly.
Xie Jianwei had done this on purpose; he wanted to see how long his Doctor Lu could maintain his falsely upright facade.
Yet Doctor Lu exhibited formidable professional discipline, holding the stethoscope with an unwavering grip, not overstepping in the slightest.
Xie Jianwei shifted slightly on his own, deliberately brushing that sensitive peak against the cold metal of the stethoscope.
A soft gasp escaped Xie Jianwei’s lips, and Lu Li’s hand froze instantly.
The air grew thick with heat. Xie Jianwei unconsciously licked his lower lip, his voice turning meltingly soft, “Doctor Lu?”
Snapping back to his senses, Lu Li swiftly pulled the stethoscope away.
Xie Jianwei asked, “Is the checkup finished?”
Lu Li replied, “Mm.”
Xie Jianwei asked, “Is there any problem?”
Doctor Lu offered no answer.
Holding back his laughter, Xie Jianwei called again, “Doctor Lu?”
Pulling himself together, Lu Li’s tone sounded perfectly steady, “We will perform an echocardiogram shortly.”
Xie Jianwei blinked, “Is something wrong with my heart…”
Lu Li consoled him, “Don’t be nervous, it’s just a routine examination.”
As an interstellar human, Xie Jianwei had no concept of what an echocardiogram was, since such primitive apparatus was ancient enough to belong in a museum of fossils.
It truly must have strained Lu Li’s imagination to dig up such a relic.
Normally, a nurse would handle this test, but by some curious whim, Lu Li allowed no one else inside. He wheeled the equipment in himself and gestured for Xie Jianwei to lie on the bed.
Xie Jianwei complied with complete obedience, his lovely eyes fixed on him without straying.
Without a word, Lu Li lifted his thin shirt, obtaining the view he had secretly craved.
Only then did Xie Jianwei realize this examination was rather uniquely intimate.
Lu Li took merely one look before shifting his gaze away, producing a small bottle and squeezing out some translucent gel, “The ultrasound gel is a bit cold, don’t squirm.”
Xie Jianwei answered, “I’m not afraid.”
Lu Li offered him an approving smile, then squeezed the gel directly onto his own palm, smoothing it over Xie Jianwei’s chest.
Ultrasound scans always required this substance to couple the transducer tightly with the skin, ensuring clearer imaging.
Typically, doctors dispensed the gel onto the probe and applied it to the patient, but Lu Li used his bare fingers instead.
As the chilled liquid met his chest, Xie Jianwei shuddered all over.
Immediately after, Lu Li’s fingers pressed gently across his chest, sticky, cool, yet burning hot. As an experienced lover, how could Xie Jianwei withstand this? Without even needing to act, his thoughts began to wander wildly.
By comparison, Lu Li seemed far more professional, applying the gel with a focused and open gaze.
Still, Doctor, if you truly harbor no improper thoughts, could you please stop caressing around!
Teased into a state of flustered heat, Xie Jianwei was caught off guard when the scoundrel finally pulled his hand away and began the scan in earnest.
The echocardiogram lasted a full twenty minutes.
By the time it ended, Xie Jianwei was visibly aroused.
Lu Li simply wiped his hands, rising to take his leave.
How could Xie Jianwei let him walk away? “Doctor Lu.” He tugged at his sleeve.
Lu Li turned back to him, “The examination is complete, nothing serious. Lately, you should…”
Flushed crimson, Xie Jianwei’s voice quavered softly, “Doctor Lu…”
Pursing his thin lips, Lu Li asked, “What is it?”
Xie Jianwei thought to himself, Let’s see how long you can keep up the act.
His fingers drifted downward with a tremble, reaching toward himself, “I… I…”
Watching this unfold made Lu Li feel as though he were roasted over an open flame, frozen in place yet burning with unbearable heat.
Looking aggrieved and bewildered, Xie Jianwei murmured, “It feels so uncomfortable here.”
He wore so little to begin with, the silk-thin fabric laying bare the peaks of his chest, not to mention the obvious condition below.
Lu Li’s gaze turned pitch-black. He said in a slow voice, “It’s alright, this is a normal reaction.”
“Doctor Lu,” moisture beaded along Xie Jianwei’s eyelashes, “what should I do?”
