by DewdropTLMilitary Advisor Xie had come to demand an explanation, yet upon laying eyes on the “culprit’s” utterly miserable state, his heart softened all over again.
Though this was within a dream, the spiritual world was its own form of reality.
Just as someone inside a dream never realizes they are dreaming, to Lu Li, all of this was cold, hard reality.
The person he loved had gotten married. Not only was he powerless to stop it, but he also had to offer his blessings—and smiling blessings at that.
How forced that smile was, how much agony was veiled beneath that strain, and what profound despair was buried within that pain was truly beyond words.
No matter how much alcohol he drank, it merely numbed his nerves, completely incapable of soothing his rotting heart.
Unable to have, unable to touch, and now, he wasn’t even permitted to yearn.
Lu Li didn’t know when he had fallen for Xie Jianwei, but by the time those feelings burgeoned into a monstrous tangle of vines, he was already ensnared beyond escape.
The tragedy was that just when he wanted to express something, Lu Qingqing told him: “Ge, Jianwei-ge proposed to me!”
A loud buzzing rang through Lu Li’s head. Only then did he realize the vines binding him bore thorns—thorns laced with poison. In that instant, it pierced through his heart into his bloodstream, corroding every limb and bone.
His only sister and the person he loved were together.
They were getting married.
If he had parents, he would have fled far away; if Lu Qingqing weren’t his sister, he would have stolen Xie Jianwei away. But now… Lu Qingqing was his sole surviving kin with whom he had depended on for survival. He had to preside over her wedding; in a place representing sanctity and eternity, he had to entrust his sister’s hand into the care of the person he loved.
How utterly absurd.
Yet such an absurdity had already come to pass.
The banquet concluded, the festive clamor dispersing like fireworks fading into the horizon.
In the hollow quiet of the night, inside the freezing room, Lu Li was completely plastered. In a daze, he seemed to hallucinate, seeing Xie Jianwei before him.
Bathed in the moonlight, the young man was as breathtaking as the first time they met.
Lu Li let out a self-deprecating laugh.
Sighing softly, Xie Jianwei stepped closer. “Don’t sit here, you’ll catch a chill.”
Lu Li looked up at him.
Leaning down, Xie Jianwei said, “Let me help you up…”
“A-Wei.” Lu Li stared at him fixedly, his voice low, raspy, and bitter. “…Am I dreaming?”
Xie Jianwei: “…”
Furrowing his brow slightly, Lu Li muttered to himself, “I must be dreaming.” At this hour, Xie Jianwei should be with Lu Qingqing—a passionate young couple, engaging in acts that tore his heart to shreds at the mere thought.
Xie Jianwei decided not to waste breath on a drunkard. He tried to pull him up, but though the fellow was wasted, his strength was immense. Not only did Xie Jianwei fail to budge him, but the exertion sent him tumbling straight into his embrace.
This was an accident, Military Advisor Xie swore!
Yet a tumble was just a tumble. As an old married couple, what hadn’t they done? It was just a hug, so what if they kissed?
What caught Xie Jianwei off guard, however, was that merely leaning against him chest-to-back while sitting on his lap, the big bastard’s little bastard had actually hardened!
Xie Jianwei turned to look at him.
Lu Li’s dark eyes were burning bright, staring fixatedly at his lips.
His gaze was stark and unshielded, brimming with raw craving and invitation.
Xie Jianwei’s thin lips trembled slightly. It was a miniscule motion, yet alluring to the extreme.
Lu Li had already been staring unblinkingly; as if spellbound, he kissed those lips without a second thought.
In that instant, Lu Li seemed to sober up slightly, realizing he was doing something forbidden.
Yet far from pushing him away, Xie Jianwei closed his eyes.
Lu Li’s heart pounded violently. Clamping the back of his neck, he eagerly invaded his mouth, pouring out every drop of the suffocating love accumulated deep within his soul.
One was drunk and assumed it was a dream.
The other was long accustomed to Lu Li.
Though it hurt somewhat at the star, presumably because the Lu Li in the dream was convinced Xie Jianwei had zero sexual experience, thus rendering him inexperienced; and the current Lu Li was far too impatient, ramming recklessly, making pain unavoidable.
Xie Jianwei resisted slightly, but Lu Li was already past the point of stopping.
Fortunately, the Lord Marshal was exceptionally gifted. Before long, Xie Jianwei tasted the pleasure and began accommodating him.
On a wedding night, rolling between crimson sheets was fitting enough.
Only, the partner was slightly wrong.
Likely tortured to the brink by unrequited longing, Lu Li treated this like an apocalyptic revelry, taking things far over the top.
Xie Jianwei was exhausted to the point of passing out cold.
When dawn broke and the alcohol burned away, a thoroughly sobered Lu Li stared at the devastation before him, completely frozen.
This was the ceremonial hall of his sister Lu Qingqing and brother-in-law Xie Jianwei.
Here, they had pledged their lives to each other, becoming lifelong partners.
And he… had taken his own brother-in-law right here…
It wasn’t a dream!
Lu Li’s face turned ashen. Gazing at the unconscious Xie Jianwei, he felt as though freezing water had been dumped into his chest, chilling him until his fingers trembled.
What had he done? He…
Last night’s memories surged like a tidal wave. All Lu Li recalled was Xie Jianwei’s initial resistance, his own forceful invasion, and his brutal savagery.
Drunk and out of control, he had forced himself on his brother-in-law on his wedding night.
This reality was branded into his heart like a searing iron. Surging alongside the violent ache was overwhelming panic and dread.
What should he do? What could he possibly do?
Xie Jianwei would definitely loathe him to death.
Lu Qingqing would loathe him to death as well.
What… what had he done!
Lu Li never wanted to hurt these two people he loved so deeply, yet now everything was ruined!
When Xie Jianwei awoke, Lu Li was cleaning him up.
Soaking in the comfortable warm water, Xie Jianwei exhaled softly and slowly opened his eyes.
The instant their gazes met, Lu Li’s pupils contracted, and his fingers pulled back rapidly from that sensitive spot.
Xie Jianwei let out a quiet huff, glaring at him with mild displeasure.
Lu Li didn’t even dare meet his eyes.
Xie Jianwei wondered inwardly: Since when did this fellow become so well-behaved?
However, it was still sticky down there, and leaving it uncleared was exceedingly uncomfortable. He looked at Lu Li: “…Don’t stop.”
Lu Li snapped his head up to stare at him.
Xie Jianwei said lazily, “I’m tired and don’t want to move. Help me.”
Disbelief was written all over Lu Li’s face. He stared fixedly at Xie Jianwei, seemingly unable to process the meaning behind his words.
Pitiably, Military Advisor Xie hadn’t taken the “brother-in-law” setting to heart at all. It was just a dream anyway. Lu Li loved him, he loved Lu Li, and they had already done the deed, so why put on airs?
Besides, between the two of them, was there any need for pretense?
Yet Lu Li looked as though his world had collapsed: “A-Wei…”
Xie Jianwei looked at him: “What is it?”
Lu Li: “I…”
Thinking he wanted another round, Xie Jianwei frowned, “I’m genuinely exhausted; stop fooling around. Rest for a couple of days before doing it again.”
Lu Li’s face drained of color in an unnatural way: “I am Lu Li, not Lu Qingqing.”
Xie Jianwei finally caught on, saying, “Of course I know you are Lu Li.”
Lu Li’s expression turned even more ghastly: “We…”
Xie Jianwei paused, then simply stated, “Lu Li, I like you.”
Although he still didn’t know what Lu Li’s psychological knot was, since he had found him, confessing first, getting together, and then slowly…
Brilliant for a lifetime, Military Advisor Xie had finally slipped into a moment of utter folly!
Before he could even finish the thought, his vision rocked violently, and when he opened his eyes again, he had awakened from the dream.
Xie Jianwei blinked.
Yan Ke blinked along with him. “Back so soon?”
Xie Jianwei: “…”
Yan Ke fired off questions: “How did it go? What happened? Which personality did you meet? Did you locate the Lord Marshal’s knot? Did you have a proper conversation with him?”
With a barrage of questions raining down on him, Xie Jianwei couldn’t voice a single word.
What in the world happened?
He had merely confessed; why was he kicked out?
Yan Ke’s eyes bulged as he blurted out an expletive: “Holy shit!”
Coming to his senses, Xie Jianwei looked over and asked, “What’s wrong?”
Yan Ke stared blankly at the monitors, then turned his head toward Xie Jianwei in complete bewilderment: “My Lord! I established the magnetic field for you to cure the Lord Marshal, but how did you… how did you…”
Pushing him aside, Xie Jianwei checked the readings on the instruments. In an instant, his handsome brows knitted tightly into a knot.
He murmured, “How could this happen?”
Lu Li’s condition had worsened. Previously, there were only four fixed personalities, but now… two more had been added!
Heartbroken, Yan Ke lamented, “My Lord, what on earth did you do?”
Xie Jianwei recalled, “I didn’t do anything…”
Making love was indisputably Pervert Lu’s favorite thing in the world. He had indulged him for an entire night, enduring the pain; how could his condition possibly have deteriorated?
Throwing caution to the wind, Yan Ke pressed, “Tell me everything you saw, experienced, and did, step by step.”
Xie Jianwei: “…”
Yan Ke said, “I’m not prying into your couple’s intimacy! You just need to… um… summarize the general events.”
Thus, Military Advisor Xie gave him a thorough account of how he went from Lu Li’s spouse to Lu Li’s brother-in-law.
Yan Ke listened with a dumbfounded expression: “What kind of madness is that!”
Xie Jianwei felt like shouting the exact same sentiment.
Not even bothering to criticize the Lord Marshal’s bizarre fetishes, Yan Ke pressed on, “What did you say right before leaving the dream?”
Xie Jianwei vaguely explained the subsequent development.
Yan Ke: “…”
Xie Jianwei reasoned, “He likes me, and I like him. Is there something wrong with confessing?”
Facepalming, Yan Ke cried, “My Lord! You cannot treat the dream as just a dream! You are there to treat an illness; to the Lord Marshal, that dream is reality!”
Earnestly reasoning with him, Yan Ke said, “Put yourself in his shoes. You harbor a secret crush on your brother-in-law, never daring to confess, forcing a smile to offer your blessings. Then you wake up to find you forced yourself on your brother-in-law, yet instead of killing you, he turns around and confesses his love to you! Do you think that’s normal? Could you accept that? Would you believe it? That is a guaranteed mental breakdown!”
Xie Jianwei: “…”
Sighing, Yan Ke said, “You have to play along! Play along, understand?”
Possessing an IQ of 280, Xie Jianwei grasped it instantly: “You mean, I genuinely have to act as his brother-in-law?”
Yan Ke nodded solemnly: “Not just act as his brother-in-law, but strictly adhere to his premise and develop the plot according to his established logic. You cannot let the dream collapse!”
Xie Jianwei knitted his brows.
Fearing his heart would soften, Yan Ke stated bluntly, “Since he set the premise that you don’t love him, you cannot love him…”
Yet Xie Jianwei genuinely loved him: “However…”
“No howevers! Only by preserving the integrity of the dream can you locate his inner knot! Remember, you are there to cure him, not to worsen his condition!”
Military Advisor Xie was left utterly speechless.
With grave seriousness, Yan Ke concluded, “As the saying goes, good medicine tastes bitter! My Lord, you cannot go soft-hearted. When it’s time to torment him, you must torment him within an inch of his life!”
